Hongkong: "Sustainable Fashion" Has Become The Mainstream "Low Carbonization" To Raise The Threshold Of OEM.

The alliance of 12 major garment manufacturers in Hongkong, which aims to reduce the environmental impact of clothing production, is currently working on formulating carbon calculation standards for garment factories.
Clothing will be labeled with "carbon footprint".
The 12 member units of Hongkong's "sustainable fashion industry alliance" include joint garment making, women underwear manufacturer Yide underwear, and Jingyuan group, etc., which can represent every stage of the garment production process, from design, spinning to clothing.
These members are British retail chain store Martha store Marks&Spencer, Booker brothers Brooks Brothers, Gap and other brand suppliers.
Among them, the customers of joint garment include Burberry Bur berry, JC Penney and North Stone Nordstrom; the customers of Jingyuan group include Ann Taylor H&M and Levis.
Because of the increasing public concern about global warming, many clothing brand enterprises and retailers are increasingly under the pressure of environmental protection from the masses, which leads them to set up more stringent environmental protection production standards for suppliers.
In fact, so far, many Chinese suppliers have received requests from European and American customers, hoping that they can achieve environmental protection in the production process.
Including Levis, L'OREAL, PepsiCo and other well-known enterprises have clearly asked their suppliers to measure the "carbon footprint" of their products, and a more typical example is WAL-MART. The world's largest retailer will convene 1000 suppliers in October to set goals for reducing their impact on the environment.
It is understood that "carbon footprint" refers to the amount of greenhouse gas emissions per person, using carbon dioxide as the object of calculation.
A person's "carbon footprint" can be divided into the first carbon footprint and the second carbon footprint, which are directly emitted from fossil fuels or indirectly emitted by various products.
One of the main objectives of Hongkong's "sustainable fashion industry alliance" is to develop carbon calculation standards for garment factories. According to the plan of the union, garment manufacturers in the alliance will be able to add labels to their clothing in the future to specify their "carbon footprint" to cope with the increasing demand of overseas retailers and brands.
In addition, the alliance will work with the WWF to develop low-carbon production processes in the Pearl River Delta manufacturing center.
Production enterprises are facing environmental protection upgrading
At present, "sustainable fashion" is gradually becoming the mainstream of the global garment industry. Due to the pressure of public environmental protection, global clothing brands and retailers gradually adjust their original supply standards, which will also have a fundamental impact on the development of the apparel industry.
For example, the control of carbon emissions will increase the production cost of the manufacturing enterprises. In the case of low carbon or carbon free production process, the establishment of related production facilities will be a huge cost. This is a big pressure for the production enterprises with limited scale and capital strength. They may face the reality that they are unable to meet the requirements and are forced to lose some overseas orders.
The low carbonization of garment production will also increase the threshold for enterprises to enter the foundry market. As more and more overseas brands and retailers begin to highlight their social responsibility aspect, the impression of low threshold of Chinese clothing production will be expected to change. At least, the domestic garment industry with overseas market oriented and market oriented will have to produce qualified certification and production lines that meet the relevant requirements.
This will enhance the entry threshold of the industry and raise the "environmental protection storm" of the OEM industry.
