Interview With Designer Jill Cheng: The Rhythms Written In Chinese And Western Style

Reporter: actually, there are many designers in China. brand Especially in Shanghai, a city with an oriental flavor. What is the biggest difference between the "Chinese elements" you admire?
Ji Cheng: each person has different understanding of Chinese elements, which is also related to cultural differences between the north and the south. Influenced by the royal family and the royal family, the design in the north is more domineering and more noble and elegant, similar to that of the northerners. The striking use of Chinese elements is like the "Dragon Robe" and "crane crane" worn by Fan Bingbing, which are large areas of Chinese elements. As a southerner, I like to embellish the Chinese elements in a low and restrained way and highlight one point. So in my design, most of the Chinese elements have the effect of finishing the finishing touches.
Reporter: your own brand LA VIE is "life" in French. What is your dream life?
Ji Cheng: it's fine now. It's also a kind of life that I want. I don't want other commercial brands to have all kinds of pressure. Now I can do my design in a relaxed and casual state, do what I am interested in, and feel the infinite inspiration that life brings to me. Very substantial! I enjoy this state of life very much!
Reporter: actually, most of the buyers of Chinese style clothes are foreigners. Are there more foreigners or more Chinese LA VIE customers?
Ji Cheng: at first, foreigners bought more, but now there are many Chinese guests. After all, Chinese temperament is more consistent with the design of this Chinese element and can better show oriental flavor. And now Chinese people have a sense of national pride. They wear Chinese elements in various international occasions.
Reporter: tell me about the creation experience of this series of my childhood games.
Ji Cheng: few designers in China insist on taking picture albums every season, and there is a specific theme. I would also like to spend money on it, because I think apart from good clothes, the album can better explain and reflect your concept. For example, the cover of my "childhood game" album is made of a green envelope, which is very similar to the shell of Xinhua dictionary used in childhood. This is also my memory of childhood.
This time we went to Henan to shoot in the field. From modeling, matching to models, including booking hotels and arranging food and lodging, I have to contact myself. In fact, the process is quite laborious, but I am very happy. Everyone does not feel tired either.
Reporter: can you tell me about the new restaurant "original Lu"? What do you think is the connection between food and clothing?
Ji Cheng: the original Lu is regarded as a concept restaurant, emphasizing the integration of the old and the new, the combination of Chinese and western, as well as my design. The dishes are Chinese and the pendulum plate is western style. China's food culture is extensive and profound, but in many people's eyes, Western food is only the most expensive one. Just like Chinatown in foreign countries is often looked down upon, I feel very unfair, and Chinese food can also be done very well. So we pay great attention to the art of swinging. China's color is very thick, more vulgar, slightly embellished. Art is interlinked. I think food and beauty can bring happiness to people. I also like to get inspiration from design.
Reporter: what do you think of the survival and development of local designers?
Ji Cheng: I am optimistic. The key is sticking to it! I once told students of design that I can't do what I like this season, I must have my own style, otherwise I will drift with the tide. I can't compromise with the market and let the market compromise with you! I have a friend whose design just started selling well 8 years ago. It is said that it has been sold out of stock, so insisting on it is very important. Although this process is very painful, it must be persistent.
Reporter: let's talk about the future development plan of LA VIE. How many stores are there in the country?
Ji Cheng: now the brand style is very stable. Next, it will start to expand a little bit. I have always believed that the development of brands must be stable before they form a certain concept in the minds of people. At present, there are 3 stores in Shanghai, namely, Taikang Road, Changle Road and Xintiandi. Beijing and Hangzhou are the forms of designer multi brand stores.
After the interview, Kyrgyzstan gave us a picture of his son.
