Mother Of Mini Skirt: Living Is Vulgar.
Young people who once led the "swing London" trend in 1960s are now at the age of writing memoirs.
In order to win the Autobiography of a good friend, Vidal Sassoon, it may also be a front stop for her new autobiography.
Despite her old face, she still rebelled against wearing a miniskirt and a pair of "years old" sandals and boldly declared that "good taste" is just a stagnant water.
At the wedding of Prince William in Britain last month, when Beckham appeared on the stage, he dressed up to the utmost, but only attracted a few attention.
Back in the past, when Mary Quant, the mother of the mini skirt in 60s of last century, invited her husband and career partner Alexander Plunket Greene to be invited to the wedding of Princess Margaret and photographer Antony Armstrong Jones (after being Earl Earl of snowton) in 1960, he caused a lot of noise.
"We were caught up in the media," Mary said with a laugh. "The head of the newspaper was" the shopkeeper was invited to the royal wedding ", but in fact, we had been a friend of Armstrong Jones.
He is a very attractive person and he is very glamorous.
Princess Margaret is also very interesting - dignified, but very interesting.
Those newspapers are purely snobbish, but that's all in the past. "
Mary has a sense of humor that prevents her from feeling guilty. Since she started the first store "Bazaar" on King's road in Chelsea District, London in 1955, this sense of humour has always been with her.
Early in the year, she set up a plastic model with a gold chain and a lobster walking in the shop window.
"I know I can make a great skirt with that sheet."
In 60s of last century, the mother of "mini skirt" that let the girls of the world show their thighs was born in 1934 in a teacher's family in London, England.
As a child infested by war, Mary showed an optimistic and fearless character from childhood.
After the outbreak of World War II, their family moved to a village in Kent, on the east coast of England. Unfortunately, the new home was flying across the channel of the British channel by the enemy.
"It is really an interesting thing for us, who did not understand the meaning of war at that time."
Mary will go out with his brother Tony to search the crashed plane.
"One of the most rewarding gains is the fingers of a poor pilot.
We pick it up and seal it in a can of vinegar.
Remembering her childhood, she is still in high spirits.
Because of the war, Mary's parents are constantly looking for new teaching posts and safe homes, so they have to move around in the countryside, leading to children unable to go to school steadily.
Fortunately, Mary has been very close to his family.
One summer they lived at the seaside. She and her two brothers even started to teach wealthy tourists to sail in the seaside.
When the weather is not allowed to sail, she will sew clothes at home.
"I feel that in my heart, I always know that my favorite thing is to make clothes."
Mary recalled, "when I was six years old, I was confined to bed because of measles. At that time, I used a nail knife to cut the sheets and make clothes.
I know that our gorgeous bed sheet can make a great skirt.
In 1951, Mary graduated from high school.
Her parents wanted her to work in a stable and practical career, but she wanted to go to the arts.
"It took me a lot of time to persuade them to let me go to art school, or when I got a scholarship from Goldsmiths University, they reluctantly agreed.
At the same time, they asked me to get the license of the art teacher. "
Mary studied at the Kim Smith School of art for seven years, but finally failed to get the art teacher's license that his parents expected.
But there she met her husband and partner Alexander Plunket Greene.
At the age of 21, Alexander inherited a huge sum of 5000 pounds.
The couple decided to make a business with their friend Archie McNair with the money.
They rented a three storey old house in Chelsea, and everyone knows about it later.
"Queen's style is unique, Lennon is my favorite Beatles."
In fact, the three young people began to know little about the clothing industry, all based on Mary's set of ideas.
"I can't stand the heavy decorations at that time... White caps, white gloves, white shoes and white umbrellas," she wrote in her autobiography, Quant by Quant. "People who invented rules were lazy people, and they didn't want to think for themselves."
Because of this, she sold her favorite clothes in the store: mini skirt, fashionable suit, bright tights and the bra that was called "Booby Traps" at that time.
Soon after, she simply built up a production line in her apartment and asked a tailor to help.
They make their clothes in the evening and sell the finished products to the store in the second day.
"I have to sell all the clothes I made the day before I have the money to buy the following materials."
Mary recalled.
She admitted that she did not think she was a designer at the beginning, but wanted to provide some suitable clothes and accessories for the young people who came to the store to buy things.
She did not think that it was herself who invented the miniskirt.
"I am also a member of this trend.
It does not happen because of me, it is brewing in itself, I just participated in it.
She said, "fashion can not affect people's views, it only reflects the existing trends, including what people think, what they see and hear, and their attitudes towards life and society."
In less than seven years, Mary and Alexander made millions of businesses.
Besides Bazaar, Alexander also opened a restaurant in the basement.
From the beginning of the store, the two shops have become models, photographers, stars and the center of the gathering of various people.
Their customers also include Prince Rainier of Monaco and princess Grace, who were said to have "pulled their hands to the table, quietly pulling them away" at the beginning of the two years.
By the middle of 1960s, the "Chelsea Girl" style of mini skirt marked by Mary has become an international fashion.
In 1965, Queen Elizabeth visited the United States. When her ship arrived in New York, the British and American fashion groups organized a miniskirt performance.
In 1966, Mary received an interview with Queen Elizabeth at the Buckingham Palace and was awarded the OBE. This is also her second royal seal of approval (Royal Seal of Approval).
On the day she received the award, she wore her own white mini skirt.
On the stage, the background music was "the picnic of teddy bear" (the famous English nursery rhyme).
The queen said to me, "go on, don't stop!"
She is really an outstanding woman with unique style.
Mary was very pleased to get the medal, which is not the same as her friend John Lennon: four years after accepting the MBE, Lennon returned it to the royal family as a political protest.
"He loves to be outspoken, but his character asks him to do that."
Mary remembered his old friend with no remembrance. "He is one of my favorite Beatles.
His thoughts attract me most.
We have also exchanged e-mail, and friendly words of encouragement.

"The blood is everywhere. He cut my ears."
Mary is 77 years old.
As a good friend of Vidal Sassoon, she has made many performances for the Vidal Sassoon The Movie, which is released this year.
The subtitle of the movie is "how a person changed the world with a pair of scissors". Mary himself also appeared in the film to tell her how the design of graphic design, often like black-and-white photographs, is perfectly matched with the haircut style of Vidal Sassoon, which is full of architectural sense.
At that time, Mary was studying at Goldsmiths University, University of London.
She often skipped classes to work in a bonnet shop named Erik on Bond Street, earning 2 pounds and 10 shillings a week.
"When I was walking on Bond Street, I suddenly saw an amazing picture. I had never seen a hairstyle in the picture before.
At that time, Vidal salon opened an unremarkable position in Bond Street. I went upstairs on the rickety elevator, and immediately saw that Vidal was cutting his hair and flying up and down with his hands.
An actress who was sitting there was barber. She looked at my long hair and said to me, "don't cut it!"
But my mind was determined. I saved money and spent enough money in a few weeks before I entered his salon again.
Vidal cut my hair personally, and I was awed by him. "
Soon after, Mary opened its own store, and her famous "Chelsea Girl" style was also matched by Vidal hairstyle.
When Vidal opened salon in New York in 1965, Mary also attended the opening ceremony.
"At that party, the British gentlemen who were not very gentlemanly, and many Americans kept telling us to say more about the word" super ", because it was said to cover all the spirit of" swinging London ".
On one occasion, Vidal was cutting my hair for me. Terence Donovan took a picture for us next to her. There was a crowd of people gathered around. Vidal unfortunately cut my earlobe at this time, and suddenly it was like blood.
He hurriedly swabs the blood with cotton swabs, and I pretend to be unaware. "
"I've tried most of his hairstyles, including the hair on the top of his head, that's that - I made it out with a comb in beer, and the whole person smelled like a beer barrel."
Mary's hairstyle is still the crimson Bob, but this is no longer the hand of Mr. Vidal, now 83 years old.
"He doesn't have his hair cut now, although his pet poodle's fur is still handled by himself."
Mary and Vidal now meet several times a year. "His wife, Ronnie, is so charming that it is much better than his three ex-wife."
Vidal and Mary later sold their business. Vidal sold Sharon to Regis in 2002, and Mary sold it to a Japanese consortium in 2000.
Now, will she miss her years as fashion designer?
"I will still convey my ideas, and I still have shares in the company, but I am no longer a decision maker, just a person who wishes them all the best."
"Vulgarity is the real life".
It's hard to forget that she once claimed to cut her pubic hair into a heart-shaped and dyed green.
Will she regret what she did before?
"I did a lot of things that I should regret, but I left them behind."
Asked about some of the current "fashion spots" behavior in the fashion industry, she said, "even if porn films are good, they will look good."
Then what kind of erotic film is called "good-looking"?
"Good erotic films can make people feel impulsive and happy at the same time.
It is shameful only ugly. "
The Mary is still the Mary Quant we know, wearing a black and white striped jacket, striped trousers and a waterproof table sandal, which is obviously produced in 1970s.
"These shoes have been around for years."
She said.
Her Quant style is still everywhere.
"It's very pleasant."
Mary said neither she nor Vidal liked remembering the lost time.
"We like to talk about things at present rather than live in the past."
Perhaps so, but these two people have been busy sorting out their past recently: Vidal has published his autobiography on the daily mail since last year, and Mary will publish her memoirs later this year. She said that the content of the new book is quite different from her 1965 autobiography "Quant By Quant".
The book is part of her fashion blog, part of the success story, and part of the declaration of the 1960s youth riots (youthquake).
"Young people will not be dictated by others. They will not accept cliches and propaganda brainwashing."
Mary wrote solemnly in that book.
She even mentioned in her book her early sexual life with Alexander: "Alexander doesn't like straightforward simplicity, but I was very young and immature, and we did a lot of experiments."
Alexander said that for the first time, he noticed that Mary was at a Christmas ball at Goldsmiths University when Mary was dragging around in the dance floor on a pile of balloons, while Alexander was originally going to debut as Wilde, only to have another student dressed up as Wilde's lover, Duke Douglas, so he had to dance with him all night.
After Bazaar was founded, Alexander designed the bags for their shops.
Whenever a beautiful customer like a female star Kay Kendall undressed in front of him, he would turn his head politely to one side.
Their son Orlando was born in 1971, and Alexander died in 1989 at the age of 57.
Mary is still living in her house with Alexander in Surrey.
Though often described as a lonely widow, she has always had a steady male partner.
For this companion, Mary will now only disclose: "he is very good.
With him, I am lucky enough not to live alone. "
How honest will Mary be in her new autobiography?
"I may have reached the age of immunization of others, and of course I do not want to hurt anyone."
Speaking of fashion writers who make rules for older women, Mary said indignantly, "I will wear short skirts now.
People used to criticizing anything new, accusing them of being ugly and vulgar.
But isn't life rough?
I like vulgarity. The so-called "good taste" is just a stagnant water. Vulgarity is the real life.
I still don't like rules. "
