Costume Aesthetics
I am an amateur in the aesthetics of costumes. This is not to defend my nonsense, but to present a fact.
For academics, the topic of dress can be touched on the point where clothes are not worn.
I try to explain this topic with some of my thoughts, which is to interpret the beauty of dress by using the framework of the theory of the real world.
In my view, there are two basic points in dress beauty: the beauty of practicality and the beauty of divinity.
For clothing, the comfort and satisfaction of the wearer is the foundation of "beauty".
The beauty of dress that goes away from the wearer is empty talk.
This reminds me of what an esthetics teacher said in college.
He said, what is beauty?
If you look at the glyph, you know, "sheep are beautiful."
Although I do not fully approve of this method of interpretation, but this explanation also gives the root of beauty, that is, beauty is initially related to practicality.
And the origin of clothing is also the reason.
The so-called "practical beauty" also includes three levels: first, clothing is to protect the body from external injury; two, clothing is to express their control ability and social status; three, clothing exists for the expression of personality and even sexual temptation.
These three points seem to have nothing to do with aesthetics, but they are the basis of clothing existence.
And any garment that ignores these three points of metaphysical beauty does not have much "wearability".
First, clothing exists for the protection of human body.
This does not seem to require much archaeological evidence, because we have no idea what our ancestors were wearing at that time, and sometimes they could only assume that they might have blocked their genital parts with tree leaves, but this is not reliable.
Recent archaeological evidence shows that in cold regions, Neolithic humans do use natural fibers to weave clothing or to use animal skins to protect against cold.
But today's cultural scholars are even more interested in the nude crowd in the Amazon rainforest. They do not have the threat of cold, so they do not need to wear animal skins.
If they put on their clothes, they may have some modern meaning.
But there is no doubt that if a man who loses his hair is living in a cold environment, he must find ways to keep the cold out.
The invasion of cold and mosquito and poisonous snakes should be an initial goal of the development of clothing culture.
Second, after wearing these fur, social status is gradually taking shape.
Possessive desire and control have always been accompanied by human progress. The chieftain of these tribes probably will have more and more beautiful fur and feathers, which gradually become a symbol of wealth and status.
In primitive tribes, the Witch of God is often a leader of the tribe chiefs. They need to show their wisdom in a more vivid fashion.
This function of clothing has been inherited until now, and nothing has changed.
The third point is the prominence of sex and personality.
Scientists say beautiful pheasants have beautiful feathers in order to attract the opposite sex, so that their "dominant genes" can be inherited.
This is also the way of life.
Today, when we talk about sexy clothes, we will confuse sex and beauty. This may be a misunderstanding, because the expression of sex is only a practical attribute of clothing, it does exist, but that's all.
Today, many "sexy" clothes are pparent or extremely exposed, which is an abuse of the beauty of clothing.
Of course, this existence is reasonable: the human body itself is beautiful and full of temptations.
But this is not to show the beauty and seduction of clothing, but the attributes of the human body.
Above these three practical beauty is the true appeal of the beauty of dress - the beauty of divinity.
This is just a pronoun, because I really can not find a suitable word to describe it.
Or is it more appropriate to define "beauty of human nature"?
It's also unknown.
But this does not affect the depth of our discussion.
The beauty of dress divinity includes three levels: one is the beauty of harmony, the other is the beauty of belief, and the beauty of soul.
The beauty of harmony is a kind of beauty based on cognition or beauty based on love.
The beauty of a woman is that she is pleased with herself.
Dressing and dressing is an advanced application of clothing for pleasure and recognition of people and things that are pleasing to the heart.
It is based on the cognition of the wearer to the world, and the result is to make the world seem more harmonious and resonate.
This beauty is closer to the sexual display function of clothing, but it is essentially different.
Without such profound knowledge of ourselves and the world, we can not express this harmonious beauty.
Some people dress to express their personalities and differences. It should be said that it is a lower level beauty, though the expression of individuality is extremely natural and reasonable.
The beauty of belief in dress, or the beauty of reason and the beauty of thinking, is the ultimate reality of fashion aesthetics.
The fashion of any brand can not reach the peak of dress beauty without integrating into the designer's thoughts and wisdom.
But this is not to say that thinkers are the best fashion designers, because after all, clothes have three basic and must be considered "practical beauty".
Therefore, we see that many fashion designers incorporate some cultural, scientific and even religious themes into fashion design to express their thoughts and ideas.
Undoubtedly, this is the biggest "added value" of fashion and the only way to seek elegance.
Elegant clothing is bound to integrate elegant thoughts and feelings into human's deep exploration of freedom and love.
This beauty value is higher than the formal aesthetics: you can not render a beautiful painting to the costumes, but think it is a beautiful dress.
In the clothing design, the golden section method is used everywhere, but it is not the core factor of the beauty of fashion.
The beauty of the soul of the so-called clothing is not realized by practical means, because it is close to the soul, and it is close to the death. It is close to the destruction of the body. The existence of clothing is based on nothing.
But this is indeed a kind of beauty, just like the beauty expressed in Jesus's sufferings.
He was crucified and did not need to wear clothes.
British designer Alexander McCune may be pursuing this kind of beauty. Yes, he is pursuing this kind of beauty with death.
There are no six orders of beauty for clothing.
For the specific fashion design, only the beauty of practical beauty and the beauty of divinity will create "perfect" costumes.
Of course, absolute perfection does not exist.
This article is not to weaken our ancestors' pursuit of beauty, or to express their understanding of beauty after entering modern civilization.
China's archaeological evidence shows that at least in the Neolithic age, our ancestors had the habit of wearing ornaments. Obviously, the necklace string up with shells is not to resist the cold.
And things like tattoos are long before.
Records of ethnic customs in Chu and even the southern coastal areas are recorded in historical records and The Classic of the Great Wilderness.
There are many records in the The Classic of the Great Wilderness that people from some ethnic groups or tribes wear ornaments from animals on their ears.
The author does not approve of the fact that clothes are for shame.
Because the worship of reproduction has existed since ancient times, and it became more prevalent in ancient times, it is not the reason why clothes are born.
Even if you see some aboriginal people hiding something from the lower body in the movie, and other places are exposed, the original intention is not because they think sex is shameful, but because they protect their fragile parts or protect their privacy.
Human privacy thinking is at least earlier than sexual disgrace.
With the progress of human civilization, the beauty of dress will be more and more inclined to the beauty of divinity.
Especially from the works of those masters, we can see this more.
