"Dongli town and Zhengbao town have good water conservancy conditions, so farmers have long ago abandoned cotton and grain."

In March 9th, Sun Weilong, a villager in the village of Wang Cheng village, Yin Cheng Street office, Xiajin, told reporters that if he could improve the water conditions in the village, he would also choose to grow grain instead of struggling to make money.

In the interview, Sun Weilong's words were full of admiration for Dongli town and Zheng Bao Tun Town.

These two towns are the best water conservancy towns in Xiajin county. The town of Dongli has passed through the town of Ma Chee river. The town of Zhengbao Town, adjacent to Beijing, Hangzhou and the Grande Canale, can be irrigated by river water. Now most of the wheat in most farmland is waiting for spring to return to green.

Sun Weilong's village, like most villages in Xiajin, can only be irrigated by well water.

Because the water quality of well water is poor and the water volume is small, plus the old road in the Yellow River, it is mostly sandy land, which is not suitable for wheat, corn and other food crops.

And Sun Weilong to the reporters listed these "grain" disadvantages, precisely the local "seed cotton" advantage.

Xiajin County Agricultural Bureau plant protection station stationmaster Yu Dianping told reporters that Xiajin's soil quality, temperature, light are very suitable for seed cotton, is the core of the Hebei Shandong Henan cotton area.

In the county's total 830 thousand mu of arable land, the highest cotton planting area has reached 650 thousand mu, accounting for more than 3/4.

Talking about the current situation of cotton production in Xiajin, Yu Dianping, a cotton planting expert who has dealt with cotton for half a lifetime, told reporters that before 2009, the cotton planting area in Xiajin remained above 600 thousand mu and the highest was 650 thousand mu. However, from 2010, the planting area began to decline rapidly, and only 544 thousand and 800 Mu was left in 2011.

"We estimate that this year's planting area will be 53-54 mu, which is basically the same as last year."

In Ping Ping explained that the cotton planting area is large, not cotton farmers voluntarily grow cotton, to a large extent, is limited to the local soil and water conditions are not suitable for grain.

In addition to Xiajin County in Dezhou, because of the less suitable area for cotton and cotton fields in the Yellow River, other counties (cities and districts) have declined sharply.

There is a problem with the production mode.

Without water, every family pays their own pockets to irrigate the shallow wells with a diameter of 30 centimeters in their own cotton fields. The pumps do not have power supply, and every household draws wires from the pformer in the village, ranging from 100 meters to a few hundred meters away.

Because of the shallow water and the insufficient pumping capacity of the water pump, the dry season can not afford one mu of land a day or night, which seriously affects the yield and quality of cotton.

Fight your own well and pour your own land.

This irrigation method is not only inefficient, but also costly.

The cost of well drilling is only about 2000 yuan per well.

Compared with large-scale farming in the US and India, the cotton farmers in Wang Li Zhuang village still remain at the beginning of the reform and opening up.

Tian Jiudong, general manager of Xiajin Dexin cotton industry company, told reporters that in the Xinjiang cotton area with sparse population, large scale continuous planting has already been realized, and the per capita benefit is much higher than that of Xiajin.

To the Eastern population with a large population density, land contract to households has restricted the further improvement of productivity.

Yu Dianping also told reporters that because of the far lower efficiency of cotton planting than migrant workers, some cotton farmers have already leased out land in Xiajin, while collecting rent and earning money while working outside.

The annual rent per mu of land ranges from four hundred or five hundred yuan to 1000 yuan.

Generally speaking, the price of land leased by agricultural industrialization enterprises is relatively high.

For example, Xin Qiu seed industry, a local cotton seed business, is leasing breeding at a price of 850-900 yuan.

In the interview, reporters found that the land rented out is after all a minority, and most cotton fields still remain in the farming condition of every household.

With the decline of fertility rate, more and more three families are growing, and the cotton fields are increasingly fragmented.
