    The National Bureau of statistics released the retail sales of consumer goods in April 2016.

    In April 2016, China's total retail sales of consumer goods totaled 24646 billion yuan, an increase of 10.1% over the nominal period (a real increase of 9.3% after deducting the price factor, with nominal growth below all except for special reference).

    Among them, the retail sales of consumer goods above the quota reached 11264 billion yuan, an increase of 6.7%.

    In April, 10.1% of retail sales grew at a low level in the past year, slightly better than 10% in 2015 April, while in 2016 1-4, total retail sales of social consumer goods totaled 102670 billion yuan, up 10.3% from nominal growth.

    Among them, the retail sales of consumer goods above the quota reached 46111 billion yuan, an increase of 7.7%.

    Lin Tao, Senior Statistician of the Trade Statistics Department of the National Bureau of statistics, read the April retail sales data of social consumer goods. The growth rate in April was mainly affected by the weakness of automobile sales. The eastern 11 provinces (cities) implemented the five national standard from April, and the growth rate of automobile sales in April slowed down significantly.

    In April, the number of auto products above the limit increased by 5.1% compared with the same period last year, and the growth rate dropped by 7.2 percentage points over the previous month.

    It is estimated that the growth rate of such commodities will slow down the growth of retail sales of social consumer goods by 0.7 percentage points.

    Sales growth rebounded, which increased by 7.3% to 104 billion 200 million yuan in the same month, which is better than the 4.4% increase in March. However, it is still lower than the 8.4% increase in January and February, much less than the 9.8% increase in 2015. However, compared with the overall increase from January to April this year, the sales volume of China's clothing shoes and hats and needle textiles totaled 455 billion 700 million yuan in the first 4 months of 2016.

    However, the cosmetics market continued to weaken in April, with an increase of only 7.6% this month. Sales growth in this category fell sharply in the first four months, and the growth rates in one or two months and March were 11.4% and 9.2% respectively.

    In the first 4 months of 2016, China's cosmetics market sales totaled 71 billion 700 million yuan, up 9.9% year on year.

    Sales of gold, silver and jewellery products rebounded sharply in April. Sales of gold, silver and jewellery rose 5% in the month, partly offset by a 9.4% collapse in March, narrowing the overall decline to 2.1% in the first 4 months of 2016.

    Sales growth on the online market has continued to slow down, especially with serious damage to clothing categories.

    In the first 4 months of 2016, China's online retail sales reached 14140 billion yuan, an increase of 27.5% over the same period last year, while the increase in the first quarter was 27.8%, of which clothing category sales increased only 15.7% in the first 4 months, narrowing 30 basis points compared with 16% in the first quarter, while food and supplies, though narrowed by 10 basis points and 30 basis points respectively, rose to 35.4% and 35.4% respectively.
