The International Labour Organization released the latest research report, claiming that automation in 20 years will lead to half of workers in 5 countries in Southeast Asia, including Kampuchea, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam, who are in danger of unemployment.

    Industry is the most vulnerable.

Research shows that about 137 million (or 56%) workers in 5 countries in Southeast Asia will be caught in the high unemployment risk brought by automation.

"Low wage workers in these countries need to relocate themselves," says Deborah France-Massin, director of the employers' activities Office of the International Labour Organization. "Only the price advantage is not enough." Deborah said.

The report says workers must be trained to learn to collaborate with digital machines.

Southeast Asia has a population of over 630 million.

The hub of the Department includes textiles, automobiles and hard drives.

About 9 million workers were employed, and 64% of Indonesian workers were exposed to high risk of losing their jobs due to automation. The unemployment rate of workers in Vietnam and Kampuchea was 86% and 88% respectively.

Kampuchea's garment factories accept orders from retail giants such as Adidas, WAL-MART, Marks and Spencer, employing about 600 thousand workers.

Due to the signing of the new free trade agreement with the mainstream market, including the US led Pan Pacific Partnership Agreement, Vietnam is investing heavily in the footwear industry and textile industry. It is the second largest supplier of clothing to the United States, second only to China.

The International Labour Organization says automation technologies include 3D printing technology, wearable technology, nanotechnology and robotics automation technology, all of which are subverting the industry.

"Robots are more and more good at assembly work, and their cost is becoming cheaper and cheaper, and they are becoming more and more competent to cooperate with humans," the group said in the report.

Among the 5 industries studied by the International Labour Organization, the textile, clothing and footwear sectors are most threatened by automation. The other 4 sectors are automotive and automotive parts, electrical and electronic, business process outsourcing and retail.

In the automotive and automotive parts industry, Indonesian and Thailand workers face the threat of automation and lose their jobs by 60% and 70% respectively.

Southeast Asia automobile factory is the seventh largest automobile production site in 2015, employing over 800 thousand workers.

Thailand, also known as "Detroit in Southeast Asia", is the world's top automobile manufacturer's regional production and export center.

The automobile industry accounts for 10% of Thailand's GDP and employs 1/10 workers in manufacturing.
