In February 1946, the Military Tribunal for the trial of Japanese war criminals was established in Nanjing. After a great deal of evidence, 28 cases of Japanese massacre were found in more than 190 thousand cases, 858 cases were massacred and more than 150 thousand people were killed.

From the scale of slaughter, the Nanjing massacre has far exceeded any barbarous atrocities in history.

It is even more grievous to compare with the Japanese army in harming our compatriots that the atrocities of the Japanese army have never been taken seriously in the world, or even rarely known.

Unlike Japan's atomic bombing and Jewish massacre in Europe, people outside Asia hardly know the horror of the Nanjing massacre.

Most historical documents published in the United States have ignored this historical event. Careful investigation of high school history textbooks in the United States, Australia and other countries will find that only a few have mentioned briefly the Nanjing massacre.

Therefore, the current international dialogue and cooperation leading the study of the Nanjing massacre and peace studies has a long way to go to establish the right to international academic discourse.

"Professor Jiang Liangqin, School of history, Nanjing University": my main research work is to collate the list of victims of the Nanjing massacre.

My research team lasted for 10 years. According to various archival documents and oral data, I collected more than 16000 detailed personal information of the victims of the Nanjing massacre.

The more than 16000 victims' lists that had been sorted out did not include the Chinese soldiers who were slaughtered at that time, while about 300000 of the victims were over 90 thousand soldiers. If the list of the dead soldiers could be sorted out, the number of the victims list would be greatly increased.

But in the files currently found, only a list of soldiers killed in the battle of Nanjing has been found. The names of the slaughtered soldiers have not been listed separately, and the sorting out of the list of the dead soldiers has become a very difficult task impossible.

Taiwan's "National History Museum" contains a large number of valuable historical materials that the Kuomintang has brought from the mainland. However, the key points of the open application of historical materials for collection archives restrict Hongkong, Macao and Mainland China residents' requests for archival materials.

Sincerely hope that the cross-strait historians can strengthen exchanges and cooperation and jointly carry out the study of the historical facts of the Nanjing massacre.

In October 9, 2015, under the efforts of the mainland, UNESCO placed the Nanjing massacre archives in the World Memory Heritage list.

At present, in mining, recording and studying the history of the war of resistance against Japan, including the Nanjing massacre, and even the history of Japanese colonial aggression against China, compatriots on both sides of the Straits as a common victim have a duty bound historical mission, and there is still much room for cooperation.

Ge Daorong, a 91 year old survivor of the Nanjing massacre, came to the scene and donated the first brick to remember the dead.

Looking back on history, thinking about the present time, when 80th anniversary of the Nanjing massacre happened, some people thought that we should not repeat the past and should not carry the historical burden. The pain points in history should be and are doomed to be forgotten. But many people believe that in the history of mankind, the tragedy of the Nanjing massacre really happened, it may also repeat itself, or even happen in some places. Therefore, history needs to be recorded, understood and treated correctly and objectively.
