Analysis Of Caprolactam Imports In 2018

In 2018, the import of caprolactam in China was 173 thousand and 600 tons, and the dependence on imports dropped to 5.73%, which was 7 percentage points lower than that in 2014. With the growth of caprolactam supply in China, the caprolactam self sufficiency rate has gradually increased in 2014-2018 years, and the difficulty of purchasing the polymerization plant has been reduced.


In 2018, the three leading countries of caprolactam import were Russia, Belgium and Japan. Among them, imports from Russia amounted to 67 thousand and 800 tons, accounting for 39%; imports from Belgium amounted to 61 thousand and 700 tons, accounting for 35%; imports from Japan amounted to 20 thousand and 200 tons, accounting for 12%.


In 2018, the import trade of caprolactam in China was mainly imported processing trade. Among them, the import processing trade mode imports 144 thousand and 700 tons and imports account for 83.35%, followed by bonded import and export goods import volume 12 thousand tons, accounting for 6.91%. General trade and import processing trade accounted for 4.95% and 4.44% respectively.

In 2019-2020 years, caprolactam has a capacity expansion plan of more than 2 million tons. It is estimated that domestic caprolactam self-sufficiency capacity will continue to increase in 2019, and import dependence will continue to decline.
