Industry Data: International Market August Clothing Retail: EU Recovery, Japan Hovering
Recently, the European Union and Japan have released textile and clothing retail data in August. Following the downward trend of the textile and garment markets in the European Union and Japan in July, the clothing retail sales in the European Union rebounded in August, and the overall market size recovered to more than 85% of the same period last year; while the clothing retail sales in Japan continued to decline, down 7.3% compared with July, and the market scale also recovered to more than 80% in the same period of last year.
EU: clothing retail rose 6.5% month on month in August
According to the retail data of Eurostat, the retail sales of EU goods increased by 3.8% month on month and 3.5% year-on-year in August. Among them, the retail sales of textile, clothing and footwear increased by 6.5% month on month and decreased by 13.2% year on year.
Food, beverage and tobacco: up 2.2% month on month and 2.6% year on year.
Non food products (except automobile fuel): increased by 5.1% month on month and 6% year on year.
Textile, clothing and footwear: increased by 6.5% month on month and decreased by 13.2% year on year.
Electronic products and furniture: decreased by 2.7% month on month and increased by 6.4% year on year.
Computer equipment, books and others: down 4% month on month and 1.7% year on year.
Pharmaceutical products: up 2.9% month on month and 2% year on year.
Mail order and Internet goods: up 10.5% month on month and 26.3% year on year.
Exclusive automobile fuel stores: increased by 2.1% month on month and decreased by 4.8% year on year.
Japan: clothing retail fell 7.3% month on month in August
According to the statistics of Japan's Ministry of economy, industry and industry, Japan's commodity retail sales fell 0.1% month on month in August, and 1.9% lower than the same period last year. Among them, the retail sales of textile and clothing decreased by 7.3% month on month and 17.4% year on year.
In August, clothing retail sales in department stores and supermarkets fell by 19.7% year-on-year, including a 22.6% decline in men's wear, 22.6% in women's wear / children's wear, 18.8% in other clothing and 14.9% in clothing.
Department stores: in August, clothing retail in department stores decreased by 21.1% year-on-year, including men's clothing sales by 23.6%, women's / children's wear by 23.6%, other clothing by 23.7% and clothing by 17.2%.
Supermarket: in August, the retail sales of clothing in supermarkets decreased by 17% year-on-year, among which, the sales of men's wear decreased by 21.5%, women's / children's wear by 20.1%, other clothing by 12.2% and clothing by 7.6%.

Shimamura
Shimamura, a Japanese leisure clothing chain, has announced that it will close all six shimala stores in China by November, but its Chinese subsidiary will remain until the epidemic is over. Combined with the impact of the epidemic situation, it is difficult to maintain its business.
H&M
H & M had better than expected profit in the third quarter ended August 31, with net profit falling to 1.82 billion kronor from 3.86 billion Swedish kronor in the same period of the previous year, and sales in the third quarter fell 19% to 50.87 billion kronor. The company said the worst phase of the new crown pandemic crisis was over, with further improvement in September, with sales falling only 5% year-on-year. H & M said 166 of its more than 5000 stores worldwide are still closed due to the outbreak.
Uniqlo
UNIQLO recently launched a recycling sustainability program, re.uniqlo, to better reduce the brand's global carbon footprint. The program will continue to recycle old UNIQLO clothes, make new clothes or turn them into fuel and raw materials, some of which will be donated to people in need. Re.uniqlo's first product, down jacket, will be available in 67 UNIQLO stores in 22 markets around the world in November this year.
Inditex
In the first half of this year, the Group recorded a net loss of 195 million euros, compared with a net profit of 1.55 billion euros in the same period last year. At present, 98% of the stores of INDITEX brands have resumed business. In the first half of the year, e-commerce revenue recorded a strong growth of 74%, and inventory decreased by 19% year-on-year.
