Nigeria Set Up Leather And Garment Industry Cluster In ABA

ABA, a commercial city in Southeast Nigeria, is famous for its small and medium-sized creative leather and garment products as well as industrial tool manufacturing. In order to build an organized industrial city, the governor of Aba Prefecture, okezie ikpeazu, attended the foundation laying ceremony of ABA leather and clothing industry cluster.

The leather and clothing industrial park with an investment of more than millions of Naira can accommodate at least 15000 small shoemakers who produce different types of leather products. It is estimated that garment enterprises can produce 1500 pieces of different types of clothing every day.

The supporting facilities of leather industry cluster also include fire station, police station, bank, clinic, public facilities, closed circuit television monitoring, standby power supply system, etc.

The leather enterprises affiliated to ABA leather products manufacturers association have 110000 shoe-making workers and 50000 garment making workers. At the end of last year, in response to the commercial environment brought about by the covid-19 epidemic, enterprises readjusted their business.

ABA footwear industry has an output value of more than 130 billion naira and produces at least 1 million pairs of footwear products every week. Recently, the state government introduced modern shoe-making equipment to the area.
