Overview of the global situation
Open the door of the new era with the thought of breaking the situation
Christian P. Schindler, Secretary General of the International Textile Manufacturers Federation, delivered a keynote speech on "the status quo, challenges and development trends of the global textile and clothing industry", based on the details of regions and market segments in September 2024 in the ITMF Global Textile Industry Survey, and the statistical data of textile machinery shipments from 2002 to 2023 in ITMF, The trend of shaping the global textile value chain is analyzed. At this stage, the global textile value chain is facing multiple shaping trends. In addition to the traditional procurement and production links, new trends are emerging in sustainability and recycling, strengthened supervision, the rise of second-hand markets, fast fashion, global demand and consumption share, and the digitization of industry and supply chain. This will promote the global textile industry to develop in a more environmentally friendly, sustainable, efficient and personalized direction.
Christian P. Schindler said that the purchase transfer revealed that the competitive pattern of the global textile market was being reshaped. With a strong foundation and continuous investment, China's textile exports remained at a high level. At the same time, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Cambodia and other countries are gradually emerging as new forces in textile production. With the improvement of environmental awareness, it has become the industry consensus to reduce textile waste and improve textile reuse rate. Digital innovation is to empower multiple links such as production, consumption, design and logistics, and accelerate the transformation of the global textile industry chain.
In the theme report of the "New Framework of EU Textile Strategy", Dirk Vantyghem, Director General of the European Textile and Clothing Union, introduced the EU's policy ecological design, supervision and related legal proposals for sustainable products, such as the supervision of ecological design of sustainable products (ESPR), the "Textile Labeling Regulation (Amendment) Regulation 1999", and the legal proposal for green claims.
According to Dirk Vantyghem, ecological design supervision (ESPR) of sustainable products covers many aspects, including emphasizing the minimum performance of products, such as durability, maintainability, etc., and the introduction of digital product passport (DPP) to share product information and prohibit the destruction of unsold goods. In addition, a legal proposal for green claims was put forward to encourage voluntary B2C green statements and coordinate the EU labeling system to support SMEs. The EU waste legislation stipulates the compulsory extended responsibility of national textile producers, requiring member countries to collect textile waste separately from 2025.
"The international conflict is intensifying, the trade situation is tense, the global supply chain is facing unprecedented pressure and challenges in the complex and dynamic environment in the face of changing market demand and regulatory agreements." Deepika Rana, chief operating officer of Li&Fung Group, in the report "Challenges and innovation of the global clothing and textile supply chain", This paper discusses the key challenges that affect the global supply chain, and how enterprises respond to the challenges and achieve supply chain innovation.
Deepika Rana said that it is very important to improve the agility and flexibility of the supply chain. By building a predictive production platform and using advanced technology and artificial intelligence to reduce costs and speed up, enterprises can better respond to market changes and reduce the impact of "bullwhip effect". At the same time, enterprises also need to focus on product innovation, borderless procurement, transparency and traceability; It is also necessary to actively embrace cutting-edge technologies, such as pricing and cost calculation through artificial intelligence and machine learning, and focus on production and inventory management, risk management normative analysis, inventory optimization and process innovation to improve the overall efficiency and competitiveness of the supply chain.

Henry Chen, CEO of Liantai Group and honorary chairman of Hong Kong Textile Industry Federation, delivered a keynote speech on "Grasping the Rising Asian Market: From Supply Chain to Brand", deeply analyzing the current situation, future trends and development opportunities of the Asian clothing market. He believes that Asia is the world's garment factory. Its efficient production capacity and flexible market adaptability have attracted a large number of international garment brands and manufacturers to invest and build factories. From design to production, from fabrics to finished products, Asia's garment manufacturing industry covers the entire industry chain, providing a wide range of choices for global consumers. In recent years, ASEAN has demonstrated strong production capacity and market competitiveness, and clothing export business has made significant contributions. In addition, the RCEP agreement continues to release dividends, which also brings new opportunities and new vitality to the development of the Asian market.
Henry Chen said that the power of brands is increasingly prominent in the value chain of modern industries, among which R&D, design, marketing and other high value-added links occupy a core position.
