President Liu Jiaqiang: Demonstrate Development Resilience In Difficulties, And Achieve Steady Progress In The Wool Textile Industry
At the end of the year and the beginning of the year, it is an important moment to review the past and look forward to the future. In order to summarize the development of the industry in the past year and look forward to the development direction of the new year, through in-depth dialogue with the presidents of various professional associations, we will show the highlights, achievements and challenges of the industry development, and discuss the trend of the future situation. Liu Jiaqiang, President of China Wool Textile Industry Association, was interviewed in this issue.
In the past year, China's wool textile industry, with its characteristics of "small and beautiful", "rare and expensive", and "specialized and refined", has shown extraordinary resilience and innovation vitality in the complex and changing situation at home and abroad. Standing at the junction of the old year and the new year, Liu Jiaqiang, president of China Wool Textile Industry Association, explained the highlights, challenges and suggestions for the next step of the industry development.
Overcome challenges and make steady progress in the development of the industry
TAweekly: Facing the complicated domestic and international situation, what is the development trend of China's wool textile industry since 2024? What are the characteristics and trends of domestic sales and exports in particular?
Liu Jiaqiang: In 2024, China's wool textile industry will face multiple challenges from the external environment, including weak overseas market demand, insufficient domestic demand and rising international trade risks. Nevertheless, through scientific and technological innovation and industrial chain cooperation, the wool textile industry has maintained a stable level of efficiency and achieved progress in production.
From the data, from January to November 2024, the total operating income of wool textile and dyeing and finishing enterprises above designated size increased by 5.5% year on year, faster than the average of 4% in the textile industry; The average profit margin was 3.9%, also higher than the average level of 3.2% in the textile industry. This shows that despite the severe challenges, the wool textile industry still shows strong risk resistance and development resilience.
In terms of exports, from January to November 2024, the export volume of wool textile raw materials and products totaled US $11.23 billion, down 0.2% year on year. Among them, the export of raw wool and cashmere raw materials for primary processing fell rapidly. This trend reflects that the international demand for wool textile products has weakened due to the global economic downturn.
As the consumer markets of traditional wool products, Europe, Japan and the United States have certain inherent recognition and preference for wool products. However, with the rise of fast fashion and the reduction of the supply of wool raw materials, the positioning of wool products has continued to shift to the high-end market, showing a decline in consumption patterns, and the quality and price of consumption have improved, It also puts forward new requirements for the future development direction of China's wool textile industry.
At present, China's wool textile industry chain has undertaken about 80% of the initial processing of wool used to process wool textiles and clothing products in the world, and has continued to carry out in-depth processing, processing and producing 50% of wool yarns and woolen fabrics, and 30% of the final wool products.
At the same time, China is also an important wool textile consumer market, and about half of the finished wool textile products are sold in the Chinese market. In recent years, the supporting role of the domestic market has become increasingly prominent. Wool textile industry is a "small and beautiful" and "rare and expensive" industry. Its warmth and skin care, luxury and fashion, natural and sustainable, moisture absorption and perspiration, flame retardant and non melting and other natural characteristics need to be further recognized by the domestic market and consumers.
Science and technology lead, intelligent integration
TAweekly: What are the highlights of industry development in science and technology, brand, sustainable development and intelligent development in 2024?
Liu Jiaqiang: The wool textile industry is not only "small and beautiful", "rare and expensive", but also "specialized and refined". In recent years, the wool textile industry has made remarkable progress in science and technology, brand, sustainable development and intelligent development, which has greatly improved the competitiveness of wool textile enterprises in terms of "expertise and excellence".
In 2024, in terms of "double carbon" work, the China Woolen Association continued to make in-depth progress, and jointly prepared a series of product carbon footprint standards with the China Textile Federation, covering wool yarn, wool fabric and wool knitwear. These standards are consistent with international standards, providing guidance for carbon footprint accounting in the wool textile subdivision field. At the same time, we organized a study on carbon emissions in the wool textile industry in 2024/25, and calculated the carbon footprint of major cashmere and sheep wool products to help enterprises understand the level of their product carbon footprint in the industry.
In terms of scientific and technological innovation, two enterprises in the wool textile industry won the second prize of the Scientific Progress Award of the China Textile Industry Federation. Inner Mongolia Ordos Resources Co., Ltd. has made a breakthrough in the identification technology and standard development of cashmere and other animal fibers; Shandong Ruyi Technology Group Co., Ltd. and Shanghai Jialinjie Textile Technology Co., Ltd. have made remarkable achievements in the key technologies and industrialization of structural design and preparation of thermal wet comfort textiles.
In terms of group standardization, the China Woolen Association has strengthened the capacity building and standard formulation of group standards. In 2024, it completed the formulation of six group standards of the China Woolen Association, covering pure wool high count wrinkle resistant combed wool fabrics, machine washable combed wool fabrics for shirts and single yarn loose structure cashmere knitwear, The high-quality formulation of these standards provides strong support for the high-quality development of the industry.
In terms of digital and intelligent construction, the intelligent construction of the wool textile industry has covered all aspects from raw material preliminary processing to finishing, and a number of typical wool textile intelligent factories have emerged, such as Concierne Group Co., Ltd., Zhejiang Xin'ao Textile Co., Ltd., Shandong Nanshan Zhishang Technology Co., Ltd. and Shunmu Holding Group Co., Ltd. By introducing advanced digital and intelligent technologies, these enterprises have realized the automation, intelligence and transparency of production processes, and significantly improved production efficiency and product quality. Their innovative practice has set a benchmark for the industry and is worth learning and promoting by other enterprises.
Integrate resources and strengthen cluster development
TAweekly: In 2024, the wool textile industry cluster will perform well. Puyuan, Dalang, Qinghe and other cluster cities are constantly increasing regional brand cultivation and chain innovation. What do you think of the current development of cluster economy? What are the suggestions for the development of wool textile cluster in the future?
Liu Jiaqiang: As an important part of the wool textile industry, cluster economy has effectively improved regional competitiveness through resource sharing, industrial chain coordination and brand co construction. The successful practices in Puyuan, Dalang, Qinghe and other places not only enhanced the anti risk ability of enterprises in the cluster, but also set a good example for the high-quality development of the entire industry.
At present, cluster economy is facing new opportunities and challenges. On the one hand, foreign market demand is weak, and domestic market demand is degraded; On the other hand, consumers' demand for high-quality and personalized wool products is increasing, providing a broader space for innovation and development for the cluster. With the wide application of digital and intelligent technologies, enterprises in clusters can better analyze market demand, integrate supply chain resources of the industrial chain, optimize production processes and improve efficiency.
It is suggested that in the future development of the wool textile industry cluster, further integrate resources, enhance cooperation and exchange between clusters, and achieve upgrading of the industrial chain through close cooperation between upstream and downstream of the industrial chain. At the same time, strengthen international cooperation and exchange, jointly respond to international trade barriers and technical challenges, and form a joint effort to enhance the international competitiveness of the textile industry.
Meeting challenges and strengthening transformation and upgrading
TAweekly: In 2025, in the face of the complex and changeable international trade situation, the export situation of the wool textile industry is expected to be more severe. What should the industry focus on next?
Liu Jiaqiang: Facing the more severe international trade situation in 2025, wool textile enterprises should actively adopt the following strategies to avoid risks, cope with challenges and expand the international market:
First, we should continue to pay attention to the macroeconomic situation and market dynamics at home and abroad, strengthen the construction of risk early warning and response mechanisms, strengthen cooperation with upstream and downstream industrial chains, and jointly respond to market changes.
Second, the industry made concerted efforts to address challenges such as international trade barriers and carbon emission barriers. Enterprises should actively participate in relevant sustainable production and industrial chain research, actively participate in standard formulation, and prepare for future development of enterprises.
Third, seek opportunities for transformation and upgrading, and improve product added value through technological transformation and product innovation; Optimize supply chain management, reduce production costs and improve operational efficiency; Take energy conservation and emission reduction measures to reduce energy consumption and production costs; Improve the level of automation and informatization, and improve production efficiency and management level; Strengthen brand building, enhance product popularity and resist market risks.
In 2025, despite many challenges, as long as we focus on national policy guidance, actively respond to changes in the international trade situation, and strengthen intra industry collaboration, we will be able to achieve more stable and sustainable development.
