US Textile State Lawmakers Call For Surveillance Of China'S Textile Imports

Members of the US house textile core group hope to implement surveillance measures on China's textile imports. They say the president must set up a program to monitor China's textile imports and determine whether Chinese goods enter the US market at a price below or below the manufacturing cost, namely dumping.

They sent a letter to legislators of 80 textile States seeking their support, hoping to put pressure on President Bush to supervise China's imports.

The anxiety in American textile manufacturers is escalated. In December 31st, the 3 year bilateral restriction agreement on 34 categories of Chinese clothing and textile imports will expire.

The US textile leadership group said in its letter that they will urge the president to implement a surveillance system in China to assess whether the goods sold to the United States are below market prices or lower than the manufacturing cost price, that is, dumping, as is now being done to Vietnam.

So far, 14 core members have signed the letter.

If there are no other questions, the letter will be presented to the president.

In 2005, Bush did not support China's clothing imports and launched the quota. However, he also took diplomatic punishments and urged China to reform its currency.

Senator Barack Obama strongly condemned Chinese manipulation of currency.

But Senator McCain has no comment on this issue.
