Zhangjiagang: Imports Of Organic Cotton Have Increased Rapidly.

Since the beginning of this year, the import of organic cotton in Zhangjiagang has been increasing by leaps and bounds.

According to statistics from Zhangjiagang entry exit inspection and Quarantine Bureau, in the month of 1~7, Zhangjiagang imported 7 batches of organic cotton, weighing 342.3 tons, with an amount of US $721 thousand, and imports increased significantly compared with 48.75 tons in 2007.

Imported organic cotton comes mainly from Syria and Turkey.

Organic cotton is a kind of cotton which is mainly composed of organic fertilizer, biological control of diseases and insect pests and natural farming management, and does not use chemical products from seeds to harvested natural pollution-free cotton production.

Organic cotton can satisfy consumers' demand for ecological textiles, and more and more attention has been paid to textile and garment enterprises.

The price of organic cotton is about 40% higher than that of ordinary cotton. At present, the supply of organic cotton in the domestic market is in short supply.

According to relevant data, cotton production in the world is about 25 million tons in 2006~2007, while organic cotton is very scarce. Output is 57 thousand and 900 tons, accounting for only 0.2% of global cotton output.
