Rising Costs Push Leather Prices Up

In March this year, the provincial leather tanning processing industry increased by 50.99% compared with July last year. Among them, cattle frontal leather rose 108.88%, 94 yuan per square metre, refreshed the historical record, and even exceeded the price before the financial turmoil. This reporter was informed yesterday by the Shijiazhuang investigation team of the National Bureau of statistics.

Regarding the reasons for the rise in prices, the investigation team said, first of all, the demand for leather tanning products increased in the leather deep processing industry. Under the guidance of expanding domestic demand, adjusting structure, promoting growth and maintaining stability, the demand for leather tanning products in leather processing industry, such as high-end clothing, leather sofa, leather shoes, belts, leather boxes, car cushions and so on, has been adjusted and optimized. Secondly, the increase of environmental investment and the increase of labor costs in enterprises to reduce air pollution and sewage treatment have promoted the price of light leather. At the same time, the demand for leather in foreign markets is increasing.
