1 theme content and scope of application
This standard specifies the determination of the burning properties of textile fabrics in horizontal direction.
It is expressed by the rate of flame spreading.
This standard applies to all kinds of textile fabrics.

3 terminology
3.1 flame propagation time
Under prescribed test conditions, the flame propagates on the burning material to extend the time required for the specified distance.
3.2 flame spread rate
The distance of flame spread per unit time under specified test conditions.
4 principle
Under the specified test conditions, the 15s of the textile samples in the horizontal direction is ignited to measure the spread distance of the flame on the specimen and the time used to spread the distance.
5 health and safety of operators
The combustion of textiles will produce smog and gases that affect the health of operators. Appropriate measures should be taken to purify them.
6 equipment and materials
6.1 combustion tester.
The combustion tester is made of stainless steel. The front is equipped with a heat-resistant glass observation window. There are ten ventilation holes at the bottom of the box, and there is a ventilation trough around the top.
There is a horizontal guide rail with a sample clip inside the box.
6.2 sample clip.
The specimen clip consists of two U corrosion resistant metal frames with a thickness of 9mm, a length of 360mm, and a width of 100mm. The inner frame size is 330mm x 50mm.
On the 6.2.1 sample clamp, there are three marking lines on the frame, and the marking line is 38mm, 138mm, 292mm from the sample ignition point respectively.
The 6.2.2 sample is sandwiched on the frame with a diameter of 0.25mm heat resistant wire at every span 25mm.
6.3 gas igniter
The inner diameter of the igniter tube orifice is 9.5mm, and the top of the igniter outlet is 19mm from the test surface.
6.4 gas
Industrial propane or butane gas.
6.5 metal comb
The length is at least 110mm, and there are 7~8 smooth circular teeth in each 25mm.
6.6 stopwatch
Accuracy 0.1s.
6.7 thermometer
The accuracy is 1 degrees.
7 sample
7.1 sample size
7.1.1 the standard size of each specimen should be 350mm * l00mm.
7.1.2 the size of the special product is not enough to make the sample of the specified size. It should conform to any of the following conditions to ensure that the specimen is warp or weft.
Sample clip.
7.1.2.1 for the specimen with a width less than 60mm, the length is 350mm.
7.1.2.2 for a specimen with a width of 60 to lOOmm, the length shall be at least 160mm.
7.2 sample size
For each sample, 5 pieces per meridian and zonal direction.
The long side should be parallel to the warp or weft direction of the fabric.
7.3 humidity control
The samples were wetted in the standard atmosphere of 20 + 2 and 65% relative humidity 65% ~ 3%, and placed 8 to 24h (depending on the thickness of the fabric). Then they were removed and put into a sealed container.
8 test procedure
8.1 experiments were carried out at atmospheric temperature of 15~30 and 30% to 80% of relative humidity.
8.2 point igniter, adjust the flame height, so that the distance from the top of the igniter to the flame tip is 38 + 2mm, and stable 1min.
8.3 put the sample into the sample clip and use the down facing.
If the fuzz or tufted sample is placed, place the sample on the flat surface and comb it with metal.
Comb direction two times.
So that the flame can go against villi.
8.4 push the specimen clip with the specimen into the top of the guide rail.
8.5 ignition device is used to control the ignition of the sample. The ignition time is 15s, and the time taken from the sealed container is within lmin.
8.6 measure the time and distance of flame spread. The time is 0.1s and the distance is LMM.
When the flame spreads to the first marking line, the timer starts.
When the 8.6.1 flame spreads to the third mark line, it stops counting.
The flame propagation distance is 254MM.
8.6.2 flame spread to third mark line before extinguishing, stop timing.
Measure the distance between the first marking line and the flame extinction point.
The length of flame spread from the first marking line to the second mark line was measured when the 8.6.3 length was less than 350mm, and the flame spread distance was lOOmm.
8.7 remove the smoke, gas and debris from the test chamber.
The temperature in the box is determined by thermometer and the next sample is tested when the temperature is within 15~30 C.
9 flame propagation rate calculation
9.1 the flame spread rate is calculated by pressing.
Formula: B-- flame spread rate, mm / min;
L-- flame propagation distance, mm;
T-- the duration of the spread of flame spread is 1s.
The rate of flame spread is revised according to GB 8170 to the decimal point.
The average value of flame spread rate is expressed by the mean value of three samples, and according to GB 8170, the total value of fire spread to integer.
9.2 the specimen is not lighted or flame spread to the first marking line, and the flame spreading rate is recorded as 0mm / min.
10 test report
The test report should include the following:
A. indicates that the test is carried out in accordance with this standard.
B. sample name and specification;
C. sample wetting conditions;
The ambient temperature and humidity of D. test;
E. sample size for special products;
The maximum value of flame spread rate and the average flame spread rate of F. sample were obtained, and the results were revised according to GB 8170.
G if the flame spread to the third mark line, extinguish the time and distance of the flame.
