Early Discovery Of The Southern Song Dynasty Manual Printing And Dyeing Workshop Site In Hangzhou Drum Tower In June 13Th

More than 800 years ago, the imperial street of the Southern Song Dynasty, which is now Zhongshan Road, is rarely recorded. Fortunately, archaeologists use their hands to raise a layer of veil.

Recently, the corner is on the southwest side of the intersection of fifteen Kui lane and Zhonghe Road, that is, the drum tower opposite. In the middle of May, archaeologists carried out archaeological investigation, and discovered important relics in the Southern Song Dynasty to the Republic of China.

Within the area of nearly 100 square meters, the site of the Southern Song Dynasty in the northeast corner, though only five or six square meters, found a stove, three pools and some stall.

The stove only exposes part, the fire door is on the east side, and the interior wall has obvious fire marks.

The three pools are connected with each other and have a water outlet. The bottom of the pool is 31 centimeters long with square tiles, and the four walls are paved with long brick tiles. Each corner of the pool has an arc brick structure, and there is a large stone slab outside the pool. Archaeologists have judged from these relics that this is a handicraft workshop.

What kind of workshop is this? There are still some smaller discoveries at the scene - a thin layer of black material mixed with soil at the bottom of the pool.

Lin Zhengqiu, Professor of History Department of Hangzhou Normal University and President of Hangzhou ancient capital culture research association, published a "textual research on the Southern Song Dynasty imperial Street" in the Hangzhou study last year. It was mentioned that in the Southern Song Dynasty, there were many silk and clothing shops in Zhongshan Road, some of which were shops in front of shops.

In the Southern Song Dynasty, Hangzhou was the largest silk textile center in the country, and there were many silk shops and clothing stores on the Royal Street.

Silk, clothing and other shops also have colorful shops, white clothes shops, headscarves, belt shops, silk shoe shops, velvet shops, pillow shops, Taiwan clothing shops and other special shops. The names of famous shops that have been known so far are:

Sword sword Camp Street, Li Jia Si shoe shop, three Bridge Street, Chai home cashmere shop, three bridges River, Yang San Lang headscarf shop.

Along the bridge, lay silk shops. Nan wa Zi, Xuan Jia Tai Yi PU. Before the middle tile, Peng Jia oil boots shop. Nanfang, Niu Jia belt shop, Xu Guan Ren towel shop.

These paved seats are of considerable size and are sold for all kinds of clothing that meet the needs of the urban population.

In addition, archaeologists also learned that there was a Ford bridge not far from here, because the river under the bridge was black and smelly, and the old one was also called the "black bridge".

"Then, is this layer of black matter a fabric? If so, this handicraft workshop is most likely to be a dyeing house. The water coming out of the dye house dyed the river nearby. Archaeologists boldly speculate.

Coincidentally, the ruins of the handicraft workshop, such as stoves, pools and drains, were also found in the Ming and Qing Dynasties.

"Is the dye house operation on South Zhongshan road extended from the Southern Song Dynasty to the Ming and Qing Dynasties?" this is a difficult problem in historical data that does not contain any answers.

On the morning of June 12th, Wang Guoping, the director of the Standing Committee of the Hangzhou Municipal People's Congress and general counsel of Zhongshan Road comprehensive protection and organic renewal planning group, went to the scene to see.

Wang Guoping said that this archaeological discovery should be shown to the common people, who used to think that Zhongshan Road was the Southern Song imperial street, not the royal architecture (such as the temple), or the official yamen (such as the six provinces in three provinces). In fact, there are also civilians in Zhongshan Road. Through the exhibition, we can get a better understanding of the life of the Southern Song Dynasty and understand the history of Hangzhou.
