G20 Summit: The Issue Of Trade Freedom Is Indispensable
In recent years, many countries such as Europe and the United States have implemented trade protection measures against China, and the deepening of the European sovereign debt crisis has disrupted the global economic recovery. When the European economy is facing the risk of slowing economic growth or even "two bottom" risks, a new round of G20 summit will be held in Canada this weekend. Maintaining global trade freedom will remain one of the main topics.
Peter Vanloan, Canada's minister of international trade, said on the 18 day that global prosperity depends on free trade and investment rather than protectionism. Canada will deliver the core message of "opening the door to free trade in the world" at the summit of the group of twenty in Toronto.
According to the briefing held by the Chinese Foreign Ministry on the 17 day, China has five expectations for the Toronto summit. One of them is to continue to oppose all forms of protectionism and promote the Doha Round negotiations.
At the G20 summit since the financial crisis, the call for trade protectionism has not stopped. But in reality, the emergence and intensifying of trade protection measures and trade barriers seriously threaten the balance of Global trade and the recovery of world economy.
Take the United States as an example, from 2009 to 2010, the United States frequently used trade remedy measures, causing serious concern and strong dissatisfaction among the world's major trading partners, and shaded the fragile economy of the world.
However, some analysts believe that because of the subprime crisis, we can say that the global trade protection measures are not too serious and there is no strong trade confrontation. Therefore, at this summit, we may uphold the previous commitment to oppose trade protectionism and further promote the development of Global trade.
The summit was convened under the premise of the global economic recovery is weak and unbalanced, and the European economy which is in debt crisis may lead to the "two dip" of the global economy. Under this circumstance, it will become more important to oppose the issue of trade protection.
How will Europe and the United States behave at this summit?
"The summit of the group of twenty is mainly concerned with avoiding the" two bottom finding "of the global economy, and intensified trade protectionism is bound to be strongly opposed by the world, especially the developing countries.
Yang Liqiang, director of the China foreign trade and Economic Research Institute of University of International Business and Economics, told the China Economic Times reporter.
He said that countries like the US and Europe tried to impede the rapid development of China's economy through trade protection, but trade protection also harmed the interests of consumers in the United States and Europe, and also hindered the pace of world economic recovery. In the final analysis, trade protectionism was a way to harm people.
The leaders of the previous summit have made a positive commitment.
Zhao Yumin, director of the International Market Research Institute of the international trade and Economic Cooperation Institute of the Ministry of Commerce, said that this time is no exception. Leaders will also make positive commitments and promise not to promulgate and implement new trade restrictions.
What is the role of the commitment? Canada's international trade minister Peter Vanloan once said, "the Toronto summit of the group of twenty will provide countries with the opportunity to reiterate their commitment to Pittsburgh summit club.
We all commit ourselves to resisting protectionism and ensuring economic recovery.
This commitment is still important, given that the global economic recovery is still fragile.
Moreover, maintaining an open system of international trade is very important as well as a necessary condition for ensuring the balance of international trade.
"There are differences in trade quality, trade structure and trade level between the United States and the developing countries. Developing countries are generally in low-end markets and need reasonable rules of international trade."
Tan Yaling, executive director of the China Association for international economic relations, said that while developing countries achieve their own aspirations, measures should be taken to equip international relations and international rules.
In this regard, Yang Liqiang also believes that at the G20 summit, developing countries should make greater noises in dealing with the issue of trade protection, especially the emerging economies with the core of China, India and Brazil as the core. They should further strengthen cooperation, promote the reform of the international financial system, safeguard global trade liberalization and strengthen South South cooperation so as to jointly cope with the possible "two bottom" of the global economy.
