Sales Of American Students Back To School Wear Began To Rise.
According to the US National Retail Federation (NRF) report, retail sales in the US grew 3.3% in June compared with the same period last year, but decreased by 0.5% compared with May.
Dallas's leather products industry Tandy Leather Factory Inc.'s performance is particularly prominent. Its total sales in June amounted to US $5 million, up 11% from 4 million 500 thousand US dollars in the same period last year.
The J.C. Penny department, headquartered in Plano, grew 4.5% in the same store during the first 5 weeks ending in July 3rd. In the 4 week of June, the total sales of J.C. Penny increased to 1 billion 495 million US dollars from 1 billion 500 million US dollars in the same period last year.
NRF president and chief executive officer Matt Shay pointed out that the current data show that consumers are still cautious about shopping, but sales of some products are growing, such as electronic products, clothing and so on, while department stores are showing signs of rising performance as the return season. The homing season is also an indicator of retail consumers' assessment of consumer confidence.
Jack Kleinhenz, chief economist at NRF, said that in the past few months, the moderate growth of the retail industry has confirmed that consumers still have a wait-and-see view of the economic trend. Slow economic growth and high unemployment rate will keep consumers on a conservative attitude towards the consumption of non essential necessities.
