Market Potential Of Middle Aged And Elderly Clothing To Be Excavated
In July 13th, the National Commission on aging work released the 2009 China statistical bulletin on the development of aging industry. In 2009, the elderly population aged 60 and above reached 167 million 140 thousand in China, accounting for 12.5% of the total population. It is estimated that by 2020, the elderly population in China will reach 248 million, and the aging level will reach 17%.
Experts point out that the lifestyle and working conditions of the elderly will have a significant impact on the social form of culture, economy and scientific consciousness.
Their demand for clothing, both in terms of appearance and diversity of tailoring, has strong demand for young people, which is a huge market for enterprises.
But from the current design, production links to the last marketing link, the potential of this huge market is far from being excavated.
"Our clothes are really hard to buy, some of them are too expensive to buy, and some private shops are not suitable for the elderly, and I often worry about bad fabrics."
Grandma Xie, who lives in the Hui Xin Li community in Beijing, says she sometimes buys cloth to make tailoring, but now the cost of handwork is becoming more and more expensive.
In the shopping malls of Zhongyou department store, Jun Tai mall, halls and other shopping malls in Beijing, women's wear is still dominated by young women and professional women. Some counters have clothing for the elderly, and the price is above three hundred or four hundred yuan.
A survey of the silver hair economy shows that clothing for young people in department stores account for more than 70%, and clothing for middle-aged and elderly accounts for less than 10%.
In shopping malls, there are few businessmen specializing in clothing for the elderly. Even if they are, they are crowded into corners.
Some brands under the banner of "middle-aged and old clothing" are not well suited to the physiological needs of the elderly in the version design, for example, most of the trousers are narrow, and even have low waist and low crotch designs.
"Now, a prominent problem in the elderly clothing market is the contradiction between supply and demand."
Ma Fengli, director of the social security and Industry Research Office of the China Aging Science Research Center, told reporters that most of the clothing manufacturers still believe that the elderly are well dressed, so no one is willing to make great efforts to study the needs of the elderly.
Zhuo Zhimin, the Propaganda Department of the red bean group, admitted that as a major clothing brand in China, they still focused more on men's clothing and women's clothing dominated by young and middle-aged people, and little attention was paid to clothing for the elderly.
"As far as I know, there is no designer in the country who specializes in clothing design for the elderly."
Chen Yongxia of the Chinese Association of fashion designers said.
What is the situation of colleges and universities that cultivate the new force of the future garment industry?
A teacher from the Department of dyeing, clothing and art design of Academy of Fine Arts, Tsinghua University, told reporters that there was no teacher specializing in clothing for elderly people, and there was no corresponding specialized course.
Insiders said that the development of the elderly clothing market was slow. On the one hand, the elderly had higher requirements for fabrics and styles (especially chest, waist, abdomen and buttocks) and color. On the other hand, the elderly were relatively frugal. In recent years, because of the larger price range of clothing raw materials, the profit margins of enterprises were further compressed, and many businesses also reduced their concern for the silver hair economy.
Data show that in the next few years, the demand for clothing for middle-aged and elderly people will be more than 1 billion, and the market will reach about 120 billion yuan.
The potential of the clothing market for the elderly is huge.
"To develop this market, enterprises and related organizations should do a good job in the early market investigation, clarify the consumption concept and detailed requirements of the elderly, and develop fabrics suitable for the physiological needs of the elderly."
Ma Fengli suggested that the whole process of R & D and after-sales service should be absorbed by the elderly.
Compared with domestic, the clothing for senior citizens abroad is considered more intimate.
In addition to various styles of clothes, they are also very particular about fabrics. Some have the function of removing bacteria and sweat, others contain bamboo carbon fibers, others have good thermal insulation.
According to Ma Fengli, the development of the elderly industry in Japan is relatively mature, and the acceptance of senior products is high. The production enterprises also pay great attention to the research of market demand.
In Japan, there are dozens of brand-name manufacturers specially designed for the elderly, and some designs are also very costly.
For example, the tops are usually front buckles instead of pullovers. For the convenience of wear and tear, there are buttons on the outside, and inside is adhesive tape that can be repeatedly pasted.
