During the "11th Five-Year" period, technical equipment of key textile enterprises in the fields of medical and health textiles, filter textiles, geosynthetics, automotive interior materials and other fields were close to or reached the international advanced level; the development of specialized materials for industrial textiles also made a breakthrough; the key technology research and industrialization tasks of industrial textiles in the key areas were progressing smoothly.

With the localization of high performance fiber materials such as polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) fiber, meta aramid fiber and polysulfonamide fiber in recent years, a variety of composite process filter materials have been widely applied, and some products have been exported abroad.

New materials such as bonded antibacterial and mildew resistant SS nonwovens, bonded antibacterial and mildew resistant SMMS nonwovens and high-performance dry paper and cotton composite nonwovens are being developed.

In addition, women's sanitary napkins, children's paper diapers and adult incontinence products and other special non-woven products, with an annual output of 100 million meters, such as polylactide and absorbable suture, have been launched during the "11th Five-Year" period.

At present, the industrial textiles industry is developing fast, but there is still a big gap between the developed countries in terms of product innovation, application field development and standard setting.

According to Zhu Minru, there is a rapid growth in the output of low-grade similar products in the industry, and the investment in R & D and new technology development of enterprises is insufficient. In 2009, the R & D investment of domestic industrial textiles enterprises was less than 2% on average.
