At the meeting, Wei Honglian, director general of the comprehensive pollution prevention and control division of the Ministry of environmental protection, announced the spirit of the tannery industry pollution verification work.

He made instructions from the significance of pollution verification work, how to do a good job in pollution verification work, and how to improve pollution control work.

Director Wei Honglian said that the national environmental situation is at a critical stage, and environmental protection work is changing from passive coping to active prevention and control.

Statistics show that there are more than 2000 enterprises in the tanning industry, and only more than 700 enterprises are above designated size. The pollution of small enterprises is very serious.

Environmental protection work is the needs of the industry's own development. If the environmental protection work is done well, the state will give more preferential policies so that it will be in a favorable position in the industry competition.

Director Wei Honglian also said that tannery industry has great potential for development and heavy environmental protection tasks.

Su Chaoying, executive vice chairman of the China Leather Association, delivered a speech at the meeting on "developing green leather and promoting energy saving and emission reduction".

He first analyzed the operation situation of China's leather industry in 2010. From the statistical data, we can see that the development of leather industry in China from January to May this year is good. Most of the indicators have increased substantially compared with the same period last year, and the whole industry has basically got rid of the impact of the financial crisis.

At the same time, in the development of tannery industry, there are many problems such as heavy energy saving and emission reduction tasks, frequent international trade frictions, greater pressure on RMB appreciation, rising international trade protectionism, high price of raw material skin and shortage of labor force.

In line with the development trend of the national industrial policy, he pointed out that the next priority of the China Leather Association is to assist the Ministry of environmental protection in the leather industry pollution verification work on the basis of the environmental self-discipline action team of the leather industry, so as to promote the pollution prevention and control in the leather industry, accelerate the elimination of backward production capacity, upgrade the industrial structure, and achieve the goal of green leather making and low carbon tanning.

At the meeting, Yang Junfeng, general office of Pollution Prevention Department of the Ministry of environmental protection, explained the arrangements for the verification work of pollution in leather industry, the detailed rules and requirements for verification.

Environmental verification is divided into five stages: self inspection, material review, on-site verification, on-site inspection and announcement.

Enterprises must submit the verification materials before August 20th, and the China Leather Association will review the materials before going to the enterprises for on-site verification.

After the verification is passed, the environmental protection inspection center and the environmental protection department of the Ministry of environmental protection will be inspected on the spot by the provincial environmental protection department.

At the meeting, Zhou Guoxiang, chairman of the technical team of environmental protection and self disciplined action team of the tanning industry, Professor Wu Haoting of Southeast University and vice chairman of China Leather Association and chairman of Zibo great Huan nine Bao en Leather Group Co., Ltd., respectively, made speeches on behalf of industry experts and enterprises. They all agreed that environmental protection verification work would greatly promote the level of environmental protection in leather making industry, which is of great significance for ensuring the sustainable development of leather industry.
