    The third batch of national quality supervision and spot checks conducted by the AQSIQ in 2010 examined 22 kinds of gasoline products sold by 360 gas stations in 22 provinces, districts, and cities in Tianjin, Hebei, Shanxi and Inner Mongolia, including 90 gasoline, 93 gasoline and 97 gasoline. Among the 360 petrol stations sampled, nearly 90 gas stations were located, and the rest were Petro China and foreign gas stations.


    According to the results of spot checks, the sulfur content of gasoline in the 37 petrol stations failed to exceed the standard, while the methanol content of most petrol stations also exceeded the standard.


    Huang Shunjing, an analyst with China gas station network, believes that the quality of oil products at some stations is prone to problems at present when the retail profit of refined oil products is low.


    He said that in general, private gas stations would buy Refined oil from Sinopec instead of Sinopec from local refineries, but the cost of sulfur in local refineries is difficult to meet the national standard, which is a major factor.


    An engineer at Sinopec Petrochemical Academy believes that the cost of sulphur reduction is very high due to the fact that Shandong's refining and processing are all fuel oil. At present, the public reaction is that the Shandong refinery manufactures a ton of gasoline that meets the three national standard. The cost is generally increased by one hundred or two hundred yuan according to the different installations, but the retail price of the three gasoline has not been raised.

    He believes that many refinery manufacturers can not fully meet the standard cost of gasoline production.

    Of the 36 local gas stations, 11 of the private gas stations had methanol content exceeding the standard.

    The industry believes that the price of methanol is lower than that of gasoline as the main driver of methanol over standard.


    One expert of the Chinese Academy of Environmental Sciences said that methanol and gasoline in various places are beginning to go the way. Now there are 6 provinces with local standards for methanol, but there may be 10 provinces in practice.

    He said that a ton of methanol was only two thousand or three thousand yuan, while the gasoline was more than seven thousand tons. The more the methanol was mixed, the more natural profits it had.


    Huang Shunjing believes that in addition to the source of oil indicators are not qualified, another possibility is that many stations to adjust their own oil stations.
