If Bruce Chatwin is a writer, he will definitely call them "de materialization".

This is the work of the minimalist father of modern architecture, the 61 year old British architect, John Parson.

When he was young, he used hammock as a sleeping device in his dormitory, and spent a day and night in the monastery in Japan, wondering whether he wanted to keep away from the hustle and bustle of the world.

Recently, Parson collaborated with another author, Alison Morris, in compiling a monograph "space is flat."

The book contains 30 minimalist but sparkling white designs: boats, monasteries, houses, and even cricket courts.

The work will be published next month by Phoenix Press. The exhibition with the same name will also be opened at the London Design Museum in September 22nd.

The museum has invited Parson to redesign the museum for them.

B: the white hammock in Eaton's student apartment is very much Sebastian Flatt's.

    style

What do the roommates complain about? What do your roommates say about this? Most importantly, how do you put the hammock on the wall?

    J: we have separate dormitories.

There is no place for hanging a hammock than the hook behind the door, but sleeping when opening the door is a difficult problem.

The only reflection of my roommates is that I hope I can put my energy into my personal studies instead of thinking about how to get on.

    B: you.

There are two Catholic communities, a monastery, a church and a private chapel.

I heard that when you were more than 20 years old, you considered joining Buddhism.

Tell me about those nights spent in the temple.

J: I haven't made much progress in managing family businesses.

The main business of our family is

    Women's wear

    And textile trade.

I do not operate poorly, but I can not bring more development to it.

When I worked for sixth years, my father pointed out this fact to me in a gentle way.

At that time, I just saw a documentary about Buddhist martial arts, and thought, "this is where I want to go."

When I was 24 years old, I flew from England to Japan on a snowy Christmas Eve.

A Japanese friend took me to a temple in northern Japan.

I tapped the door of the wood and answered, "please come in. This is your mop."

    Please polish the floor. "

It was 4 in the morning.

After that, I got a bowl of rice and maybe something else.

I woke up at once and got up and left the temple.

Friends are still at the local hotel.

When he sent me to the temple, he told me that he would wait for me.

When he said this, I replied, "I will live here for a year, and I am waiting for enlightenment from Zen."

B: what do monks think of the new courtyard you designed for them?

J: they appreciate my architecture very much.

Young monks may not really understand why they need "architecture", but the older monks understand the importance of architecture to the daily life of Buddhism.

The temple must be a relaxing and tranquil place; it should allow the monks to concentrate on their work.

They told me very clearly that they did not need any unnecessary decoration.

The only thing they could not understand was that the design took so long.

B: a few years ago, you designed a 15 square meter apartment for Bruce Chatwin.

In Chatwin's view, man is a natural nomad.

All his works are exploring this theme.

That being the case, a fixed residence, no matter how small or material existence, should be a different concept for him.

Have you not discussed this problem?

J: what makes Chatwin different is that he can make you listen to him.

He is good at imitation, very talkative, and has excellent storytelling skills.

He will take the manuscript of "Song territory", quietly appear in London street breakfast, or sit in the bathtub, eating eggs and bacon, and start reading.

He never asks if you want him to do so.

B: the apartment you designed for him is so small that it's as small as a cabin.

Then you really designed a white yacht for a family.

Alison Morris wrote in his book: "white clothes, white houses, white cars and white sailboats, this is a monochromatic aesthetics."

Are all their children dressed in white?

    J: No, of course not.

But the uniform of the crew is white.

The car was so white that it was very moving.

B: have you tried sailing in this yacht?

    J: No.

    The wind is too strong.

My wife Catherine has managed to persuade me to return to the bike from the sailboat.

After the opening ceremony of the London Museum of design exhibition, we will participate in a charity bicycle challenge for diabetes.

The competition runs from London to Amsterdam.

My son is suffering from diabetes, which has touched my heart.

B: it sounds like a very long race.

    How is your knee?

    J: everything is fine.

One can not always maintain the same strength.

The same is true in architecture.

When you are young, you have energy, but you may not have the right job. Now you can make the best design but feel powerless.

Fortunately, most of the young people I work with are both capable and energetic.
