Pingchang, South Korea Wins The Right To Host The 2018 Winter Olympic Games

On the evening of July 6th, at the 123rd plenary session of the International Olympic Committee in South Africa, Beijing, Anasi, South Korea, Pingchang, Germany, Munich and France competed for the final bid to win the right to host the 2018 Winter Olympic Games. Finally, South Korea's Pingchang won more than half of the votes in the first round of voting, and was awarded 2018 in July 6th.

One of the important agenda of the 123rd International Olympic Committee plenary session is to select the venue for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games. After a series of previous screening, the three final candidate cities were Pingchang, Munich and France.

On Wednesday, the vote on the Winter Olympic Games officially entered the countdown. According to the International Olympic Committee regulation, three cities need to make 45 minutes final presentation, followed by 15 minutes of answering questions.

Munich took the lead, and nasi and Pingchang followed.

Bentele, a gold medal winner of the 12 Paralympic Games and a well-known German blind athlete, also expressed the hope that the 2018 Winter Olympic Games will be held in Munich.

The prospect of the Olympic Games in Pingchang, South Korea's resort, was generally well received. In the 2010 and 2014 Olympic Games, Pingchang finally lost to Vancouver and Sochi in a weak margin.

Pingchang also called out the slogan of "Xintiandi" for the bid, and specially invited Kimyu-na, the winner of the 2010 Winter Olympics Olympic figure skating singles champion, as ambassador to Vancouver.

In addition, South Korean President Lee Myung-bak arrived in Durban to cheer for Pingchang's bid to host the Olympic Games.

In making a statement to the International Olympic Committee, Lee Myung-bak hoped to show the understanding of the Korean Olympic spirit in the process of bidding for the Winter Olympic Games. He said: "as a former director of the International Swimming Federation, I am more grateful to the International Olympic Committee and the Olympic movement for giving support to Korea than anyone else. I think it's time for us to make a return.

I sincerely hope that the dream of hosting the Winter Olympic Games and Paralympic Games in Korea will become a reality. You will be proud of your choice.

But compared to the two cities, the French lakeside town, Naxi, is in a clear backward position in the competition for Olympic bid.

Although France has held three Winter Olympic Games in history, including the first Winter Olympic Games held in 1924, it has been beset by poor planning, shortage of funds, low support rate and the resignation of the chairman of the Olympic Committee since 2009.

In addition, French President Sakorzy's decision not to travel to South Africa is widely believed to be because he has little hope of winning.

However, French Prime Minister Francois Fillon stated in the statement that the French government was very supportive of anaxi's bid.

After the closing of the three candidate cities, the International Olympic Committee conducted the final anonymous vote.

After the first round of voting, Roger, President of the International Olympic Committee, said that in the first round of voting, candidate cities had won more than half of the members' support and won the right to host the 2018 Winter Olympic Games.

Subsequently, at the opening ceremony of 23 hours in Beijing, Rogge officially announced the result of the vote: Pingchang, South Korea became the last winner. The concrete result was: 63 votes in Pingchang, 25 votes in Munich, and 7 votes in arnaxi (a total of 95 International Olympic Committee members took part in the vote, Pingchang won by 48 votes).

Thus, Korea will also become the second Asian countries to host the Winter Olympic Games after Japan, after which the Winter Olympic Games were held in Asia for two times, but they were all in Japan, namely the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo and the Nagano Olympic Winter Games in 1998.

In 2018, Pingchang, Korea, the Winter Olympic Games will come to Asia again 20 years later.
