Italy Demands EU To Enact More Stringent Product Label Law

The national shoe manufacturers association of Italy is demanding that the EU's product label law be more stringent, including shoes and furniture, to force manufacturers to indicate where their components are produced.

At present, EU law does not require manufacturers to explain where their product components come from, so that shoe factories can make shoes parts in low wage countries, such as Southeast Asia, and assemble shoes into Europe to sell them as European finished shoes.

Therefore, the association requires that all imported goods must be marked with signs to indicate where the components are made and where the finished products and shoes are assembled, so as to prevent such counterfeit European goods and promote the employment of European shoemakers.
