The exhibition of Asian Civilization Museum from today, "trade pattern - India textile export history 1400-1900" (Patterns of Trade Indian Textiles for Export, 1400-1900) is about India's textile trade story.

The more than 70 precious India textiles displayed include decorative cloth, tablecloth, coats and skirts. Each is an antique which is carefully selected by the authorities and spent huge sums of money to buy it from all over the world.

These exhibits will be a permanent collection of the Asian Civilization Museum and will be exhibited for a long time.

David Henkel, a Southeast Asian researcher at the museum, said that the ancient India textiles were of high quality, varied colors, attractive and durable designs, and are valuable goods. Therefore, many dignitaries like collecting and passing on from generation to generation.

"India began exporting textiles since the Rome era, and its trade volume reached its peak in 17 and eighteenth Century," he said.

European businessmen will carry a lot of gold and silver across the ocean to buy Textiles in India, and then bring them to Southeast Asia in exchange for spices.

This is the so-called India ocean trade.

David Henkel said it is difficult to find complete textiles in ancient India around the world. Most of the museum's collections were bought from Indonesia.

He said, "we found some complete India textiles in remote Sumatra, Ambon and the Republic of the Republic of the Republic of France. They are preserved by the fine families and have been handed down from generation to generation because of their fine quality and fine workmanship."

The "trade pattern" exhibition is divided into 4 exhibition areas. The entrance is "introduction area". Visitors can understand the background of India's textile exports.

Then came to the "production area", through the image and display products to understand how Indians used various unique methods to weave cloth.

The third exhibition area is about the export market of India textiles.

The fourth area is to introduce the impact of India's textile industry on the world and its decline.

David Henkel said: "the ancient India textile industry was very flexible. After the foreign pattern was introduced into India, the craftsmen would design different patterns according to different markets.

After the export of these India textiles to foreign countries, it also affects the local cloth design and inspires new patterns. India is constantly communicating with foreign countries in this way.

The history of India's textile exports tells us an incredible story of international trade and cultural exchange.

In fact, many English expressions of clothing are derived from India, such as Khaki (Khaki), pyjama (pajamas), sash (belt) and so on. From these words, we can see the great influence of ancient India textiles on the world.
