South Africa Will Give Priority To Local Procurement Of Shoes And Other Products.
Zimbabwe's largest trading partner, South Africa, has announced that it will announce a policy in two weeks to ensure that 75% of its purchases come from the mainland.
This also means that Zimbabwe's exports and exports of services in South Africa will shrink dramatically.
The Ministry of trade and industry of South Africa said that the "priority local procurement policy framework act" will be formally implemented from December 7th.
In this regard, industry and market observers believe that Zimbabwe's trade will be severely hit, especially after ten years of economic recession, and many Zimbabwe enterprises are just beginning to recover.
The New South African policy to be implemented will affect the trade of all industries. The first batch of products classified as "priority local purchase" include leather, footwear, large passenger cars, pmission towers, rolling stock, medicines, set-top boxes, clothing, textiles, food and canned goods, and office furniture and school supplies.
