The total amount reached 1 billion 141 million US dollars, an increase of 22% compared with the same period last year, and clothing export volume was 157 million, an increase of 1.46% over the same period last year.
Mario Fiok, chairman of the association, said that Peru's competitiveness in garment production was very competitive, making it able to export enough products to the international market while supplying the domestic market. He said that the clothing market was going up this year, and the average price of each garment reached US $7.25, which was 20.41% higher than the average price in the first 10 months of last year.
Ofik said, because the United States accounts for 51% of the market share of Peru's clothing exports, so when the US economy is depressed and the demand for imports falls, it will cause great pressure on the export of Peru's garment industry. He believes that one of the great challenges of Peru exporters is to diversify the market and vigorously expand Latin American neighbouring countries and other regions, so as to reduce excessive dependence on the US market.
According to statistics, the second largest export market for clothing in Peru is Venezuela, accounting for 19% of Peru's clothing export market share; followed by Brazil, accounting for 5%; Argentina and Columbia each account for 3%; Italy, Germany and Chile each account for 2%.
