Nowadays, some clothes are made of synthetic fibers. Synthetic fibers need to be extracted from limited resources such as oil and coal, which are likely to cause waste of resources.

Even natural fibers made of cotton, linen, silk, wool and so on, the growth of raw materials also needs a certain area of land.

The marine biomass fiber new material team has chosen to enter the ocean. It is not only energy saving and environmental protection, but also produces flame retardant and tensile strength of calcium alginate fiber, which is better than cotton. It is especially suitable for military special clothing, and it may also become the face of ordinary citizens in the future.

Reporters at Qiingdao University laboratory, calcium alginate fiber is milky white filaments, handle similar to cotton, soft and delicate texture.

It is understood that the fabric made of this kind of fabric has better comfort, breathability and feel than cotton fabric, and also has good flame retardancy.

The staff picked up a small piece of fiber and lit it with a lighter. Only the part that had been touched turned black, but once the fire was left, the fire on the fiber went off automatically and it would not continue to burn.

This year, the project team has built an annual production line of 800 tons in Chengyang district. The calcium alginate fiber produced will be gradually made into garment fabrics.

The project can not only promote the cultivation of algae, fiber, textile and other industries, and form new industrial chains and economic growth points, but also be conducive to the development of marine resources, energy conservation and environmental protection.

It is reported that at present, Qiingdao University has approved 122 research projects at the provincial level and above level, and the number of projects at the national level has increased by 36% compared with that in 2010. It has approved 11 universities' research innovation platforms in 12th Five-Year, 1 municipal engineering research centers and 2 key municipal laboratories.

The school scientific research department was awarded the "11th Five-Year" excellent team of science and technology management by the Ministry of education, and was awarded the advanced scientific research management unit by the Shandong Provincial Department of education.
