    China is the largest shoe producing country in the world. At present, the output of shoes has exceeded 10 billion pairs each year.

    The solvents in these adhesives contain three benzene (benzene, toluene, xylene), which can cause chronic occupational poisoning, such as carcinogenesis, leukemia, infertility, respiratory diseases, etc.

    According to the press survey, there are only more than 4000 shoe factories in Fujian Province, with over 100 million employees and about 40 thousand workers exposed to toxic chemicals for a long time.

    In order to improve the working environment, some factories have increased investment, equipped with ventilation and ventilation devices, dust washing towers, tower conveyor belts, fireproof rubber floors, masks, carbonized masks and so on, but workers are still in a highly toxic and volatile solvent release environment.

    At the same time, the allocation of relevant facilities and jobs also brings high additional cost and resource consumption.


    From the perspective of world development, all countries in the world are strengthening environmental protection and industrial hygiene legislation, limiting the amount and use of organic solvents. At present, the high-grade tourist shoes exported to Europe and the United States are not allowed to use organic solvent based adhesives.


    China Adhesives Industry Association said that with the continuous enhancement of the concept of safety, green and environmental protection in the whole society, innocuous and harmful adhesive technology is used for harmless production.

    With the development of energy saving adhesives, the development of new adhesive products with high technology content, high added value and high performance has become the development trend of adhesives industry.

    At present, environment-friendly and high-tech adhesive products have been applied in many fields such as electronics, automobiles, medicine and so on, and gradually substitute for solvent products.

    However, the footwear industry with low profit margins and more SMEs has not yet effectively penetrated.


    According to the introduction, in the next 5 years, China will focus on developing environment-friendly and energy saving adhesives, and vigorously research and develop new products with high technology content, high added value and high performance.

    From the development trend of global adhesives market, non solvent products are mainly developed towards waterborne. They are environmentally friendly, safe, non-toxic, and do not need to bear the potential risk cost of fire and health hazards caused by solvents. In the next few years, they will replace the existing solvent based products as the main varieties of shoe adhesives.


    At present, water-based adhesives are suitable for footwear industry in China.

    What has already been achieved: Fujian Putian Huayu Shoes Co., Ltd. and the Fujian Institute of science and technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences jointly undertake the national "863" project, developing and producing environment-friendly and high-performance waterborne polyurethane adhesives. The products have strong adhesion, no toxicity, no smell, no static electricity, and are friendly to the human body and environment. They are widely used adhesives for shoes in developed countries.

    Compared with imported polyurethane for waterborne shoes, the cost can be reduced by 20%.

    Foshan Nanhai Bali chemical products Co., Ltd. and Zhongshan University and other scientific research institutions, has also conquered the key technology of waterborne polyurethane adhesives for shoes and has successfully achieved industrialization.

    Guangdong Oriental resin Co., Ltd. and South China University of Technology have jointly developed the waterborne polyurethane adhesive for shoes, which has also been industrialized.
