    In 1996, the Ningbo garment industry, which was dominated by men's clothing, began to take shape. There were more than 800 clothing enterprises in Ningbo, and some famous brand clothing enterprises such as YOUNGOR, Shanshan, Luo Meng, Yi Xiu and so on, and tens of millions of enterprises in the annual sales volume reached 10.


    In order to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the domestic and international garment industry, promote the progress and improvement of China's garment industry, and gradually establish the status of Chinese clothing in the international arena, and strive for more clothing to enter the international brand, the Ningbo municipal government decided to organize the clothing festival.


    In October 1997, the first Ningbo costumes festival was formally held as one of the activities of the clothing fair, fashion show, costume discussion, economic and trade negotiation and so on.

    In four days, there were 241 exhibitors, including 108 overseas, attracting more than 5000 buyers, more than 3000 people, and 3 billion 230 million RMB in trade.

    During the period, 5 foreign investment projects with a total investment of 155 million US dollars were launched and put into operation, and 11 foreign investment projects were signed at the signing ceremony, with a total investment of US $575 million. Ningbo

    In 2003, the Ningbo Clothing Fair was named one of the 37 class a exhibitions in the country by the Ministry of Commerce and the China Council for the promotion of trade, and entered the 15 outstanding exhibitions in the country.

    In 2005, with the ever increasing barriers to international textile trade, the acceleration of the integration of the global garment industry and the advent of the post quota era, the national garment industry exhibition is facing a new reshuffle. Guangdong, Jiangsu and other Wenzhou cities have been holding up several successive dress festivals.


    At this historical turning point, Ningbo decided to rename the "Ningbo International Garment Fair" which has been used for 8 years for "China International Fashion Fair".


    "Ningbo clothing festival must rely on industry, service industry and upgrading industries. Internationalization, marketization and specialization are the only way for Fashion Festival."

    Yu Danhua, spokesman of the Ningbo municipal government and director of the great event office, said that based on the strategic positioning of Ningbo International Fashion Festival, Ningbo changed the "fair" to "Service Fair".

    The new formulation, on the one hand, makes the exhibition more accurate. That is, the national exhibition held in Ningbo, and more importantly, highlights the "paction nature" of the exhibition, which is a platform for the two-way trading in the domestic and foreign markets, which is exactly a direction for the exhibition with Chinese characteristics to be ultimately integrated with the international market.


    At this time, after nine years of training, the Ningbo garment industry has formed a large number of famous brands such as YOUNGOR, Shanshan, Luo Meng, Lopez, PE Luo Cheng, Taiping bird, Tonlion, Ai Mei and eagle.

    In 2005, among the 500 most valuable brands in China, Ningbo garment enterprises accounted for six seats.


    At present, there are more than 3000 registered trademarks in Ningbo clothing, and more than 50 clothing brands are registered overseas, with four well-known trademarks in China, 16 famous brands in China, such as YOUNGOR, Shanshan, Luo Meng, Tonlion and so on.


    According to statistics, there are more than 3000 garment enterprises in Ningbo. Among them, there are hundreds of enterprises with annual sales income of tens of millions of yuan. The products include men's wear, women's wear, children's wear, fashion and so on. They produce 1 billion 400 million pieces of clothing annually, accounting for about 12% of the country's total.

    Since then, the most mature brands of Ningbo women's wear have begun to emerge.

    However, their development has their own experiences: "Xian Dian" and "Dan Ke Yun". After their family workshop in the former shop, they began to achieve snowball accumulation and expansion. The women's clothing such as the "beauty lion" and "Taiping bird" were born on the basis of a strong manufacturing industry; Kang Nan women's clothes were processed by the foreign trade OEM, which is a brand newly developed on the basis of the domestic men's clothing has been foothold.

    Ningbo garment enterprises with overseas factories are far more than Shenzhou. Ningbo Jing Yong woolen mill has production bases in Bangladesh, and Ningbo Free Trade Zone Hongmei Textile Garments Co., Ltd. has opened a garment factory in Canada.


    For some other garment enterprises in Ningbo, "going out" means stepping abroad, so that their products can bypass trade barriers and enter the European and American markets.

    "Going out" not only effectively evaded trade restrictions in Europe and America, but also provided relatively low labor, raw materials, water and electricity supply protection.

    For most OEM enterprises, this kind of overseas investment with no small risk is worth expecting.


    From the first few overseas businessmen of the first international garment industry in Ningbo to the 3500 businessmen from 91 countries or regions of the ninth international clothing festival in 2005, each Ningbo international garment festival will bring a surprise to Ningbo's garment enterprises.
