New Technology: Contemporary Embroidered Men With Innovative Embroidery Skills

Born in 1976, Gao Lei Lei is an inheritor of Nanjing's non heritage skills, folk cloth art. There is a well-known art name "Gao Yong". As the only man in the four generation of family art and the only male embroidery artist in Nanjing, Gao Lei Lei has been thinking for a long time about his work of cloth work for 27 years. From a simple process of embroidery and sewing to breakthrough, he has worked out a series of achievements such as "three-dimensional embroidery".

In the Nanjing folk custom museum, the reporter saw Gao Ruilei, who was making works. He meticulously embroidered a piglet on the white cloth with colorful high gloss silk thread, which was simple and concavo convex, showing a three-dimensional visual effect. Gao Ruilei introduced, this is his own three-dimensional embroidery process.

As a successor of traditional culture, Gao Lei Lei has been making great efforts to produce works of national flavor. He once sold his own purse, tiger head shoes, tiger cap and belly pocket in Confucius Temple folk art Grand View Garden, Gan Xi's former residence and other places. The products were once quite popular. But as time went on, gradually, he felt that people had lost enthusiasm for things that had not changed. "Times are changing, and so many new things have attracted everyone's attention. I realized that for traditional skills, only innovation has a way out, and there is a way to make these skills better develop and survive. " Gao Ruilei said.

So from five or six years ago, Gao Lei Lei devoted himself to innovation. "I have been thinking for a long time from studying the visual effects of different needles, to the collocation of colors, to the selection of ornaments." He changed the plain needling method of ordinary embroidery into "long needles", alternately using one of two long and short techniques to make the color of the pattern form a sense of hierarchy. At the same time, the spanitional color in the fine arts field was introduced to make the work have a perspective effect and form a stereoscopic vision. He also added agate and other decorations in his works, elaborately matched to add color to his work.

In marketing, Gao Ruilei also made improvements. He introduced the current popular private custom concept to produce creative products according to customer needs. Whether it's money bag, Hanfu or satchel, whether it's traditional Zodiac or duo A dream in comics, he can achieve it as long as the customer asks for it.

Gao Ruilei has won many fans for his excellent craftsmanship and innovative techniques. As a member of the cultural exchange and visiting group in the United States, he participated in the new Spring Friendship Society of the overseas Chinese organizations in the United States. The small gifts he had prepared for the overseas Chinese were robbed of them. A more than 80 year old grandmother went to his studio to talk about her experience of embroidery when he was there.

Now, Gao Ruilei has set up a "embroidered men's handicraft studio" with 9 employees in Jiangbei, and has opened a class of professors. He said to reporters, "my biggest wish now is to cultivate students with innovative ability at the same time. Many students are satisfied with learning traditional handicrafts, and are not enthusiastic about new concepts such as innovative techniques, private ordering, etc. I am now thinking about how to use better teaching methods to stimulate everyone's enthusiasm for innovation.
