Akesu textile industrial city (Development Zone) was established in October 2010. In 2013, the autonomous region designated the Akesu textile industrial city as the first city in four southern prefectures in the southern Xinjiang of "three cities, seven gardens and one center". The textile industry city is an autonomous development zone centered on the development of the textile and garment industry. It is the demonstration base to undertake the transfer of the Eastern Textile and garment industry to the West. The western part of the country is an important textile production and processing export base for Central Asia, South Asia and even Europe. The Akesu textile industry city is the only one in the four cities and prefectures of the southern Xinjiang Autonomous Region, in the layout of the "three cities" of the textile and clothing industry in the autonomous region. A city is also the only industrial city (Development Zone) named for the textile industry in China. It has been listed as a national textile industry transfer demonstration park and one of the ten major industrial parks in China.

In 2018, the total industrial output value was 9 billion 160 million yuan, an increase of 14.06%; the industrial added value was 2 billion 280 million yuan, an increase of 17.89%; the investment in fixed assets was 5 billion 1 million yuan, and the investment in attracting capital reached 4 billion 539 million yuan, an increase of 13%, achieving 140 million yuan in the general public budget revenue and 8240 new jobs in the whole industry. This year, the textile industry city plans to add 1 million spindles, 1000 looms, 30 million pieces of home textiles and garments, 7000 jobs, and 10 thousand rural poor families to get rid of their jobs.
