Hengshui: Cotton Planting Area Of Cotton Farmers Is Expected To Be Reduced By 10% In 2020.

In November 26th, the national cotton market monitoring system, the Hengshui monitoring station in Hebei, investigated the cotton planting area in Jizhou and Zaoqiang counties. The results showed that the cotton planting area was expected to be reduced by 10% next year. The cotton production situation in Hengshui, one of the main cotton producing areas in the Southeast of Hebei Province, will face more severe test in 2020.

The reasons for cotton farmers' intention to plant cotton area are four aspects:

First, local cotton has been scattered, dispersed and planted in a long time. The whole production process is time-consuming and labor efficiency is very low.

Two, the purchase price of seed cotton is not satisfactory this year. Despite the typical "low opening and high walking" characteristics of cotton prices this year, the best quality cotton purchase price so far is only 3.20 yuan / Jin, down by 0.10-0.15 yuan / Jin compared with the same period last year, plus the high cost of planting.

Three, the phenomenon of aging among farmers is becoming more and more prominent. Because of the age, farmers who are around 50 years old are no longer popular.

Four, in order to protect the precious groundwater resources and prevent the ground subsidence caused by funnel topography becoming more and more serious, the local government has issued a continuous platform policy in recent years, limiting the amount of wheat, corn and other food crops that farmers need to grow large amounts of water, and subsidize 500-800 yuan per mu per year, forcing farmers to grow crops that are relatively resistant to drought.

The first two factors make cotton planting decrease year after year, and then two factors make local cotton production maintain, and there is no embarrassing situation of cotton extinction. For example, according to the expected reduction of 10%, the cotton planting area in Hengshui is about 765 thousand mu in 2020, which is the least cotton planting area in the past 5 years.
