Adidas Develops Shoes That Can Be Recycled To Make Waste "Recycled."
The [FUTURECRAFT.LOOP] project aims to solve the problem of plastic waste, and achieve the "closed loop" or circular manufacturing mode of waste disposal, so that raw materials can be reused again and again.
New York, Shanghai, USA - "I like the idea that if I find a perfect pair of shoes, even if it breaks down, I can still get it back and come again and again," says Jessie Zapo from New York. Now, his idea has become a reality. As the first trial of Adidas [FUTURECRAFT.LOOP] sports shoes, the shoes were rebuilt into a pair of new shoes within 7 months after being reclaimed. Adidas unveiled [FUTURECRAFT.LOOP] sports running shoes in New York in April 17th, the first brand of running shoes for MADE TO BE REMADE. The sports shoes can be recycled as a whole, and consumers only need to return it to Adidas to decompose and rebuild, so that they can get a pair of new running shoes. "Moving plastic waste out of the ecosystem is the first step in Adidas's sustainable development strategy," said Mr. Eric Liedtke, executive director of Adidas's global brand. "When your shoes are eliminated, you will discard them directly, but in fact, they don't disappear. They are discarded in garbage dumps and incinerators, which eventually cause the atmosphere to be blocked by excess carbon blocks or to fill the ocean with plastic waste. In the future, our mission will be to terminate the concept of "waste" and improve the environment in which we live. We have such a dream in mind that you can wear the same shoes repeatedly. "
The [FUTURECRAFT.LOOP] project aims to solve the problem of plastic waste, and achieve the "closed loop" or circular manufacturing mode of waste disposal, so that raw materials can be reused again and again. After reuse, raw materials are not made into water bottles or handbags, but are reborn into another pair of running shoes. Under normal circumstances, the shoe contains complex composite materials and component adhesives, which leads to its downgrading. Adidas has found a way to change the production process by developing and manufacturing the leading materials from Asia, Europe and North America, and following 10 years of research and development. By using only one type of material and glue free method, we can create remanufactured athletic shoes. Each part of the shoe is made of reused TPU material, and through the Adidas SPEEDFACTORY technology, the raw material is spun into yarn, braided, fixed and molded into the BOOST sole of the running shoes. When the service life of these shoes is over and returned to Adidas, they will be cleaned, grinded into balls, and melted into a pair of materials for making new shoes. During the remanufacturing process, no material will be wasted or discarded.
Adidas has always focused on the research and development of sustainable materials. In 2015, Adidas launched the first sport concept shoe with Parley for the Oceans, which is made of recycled yarns from marine waste plastics and illegal deep-sea gill nets. By the end of 2019, Adidas plans to produce 11 million pairs of shoes using Parley Ocean Plastic by Parley, which is derived from plastic waste recovered from beaches, remote islands and coastal communities. By 2024, Adidas promised to use recycled polyester only for every product and all creation.
[FUTURECRAFT.LOOP] is expected to be launched in spring and summer in 2021. However, before that, 30 pairs of FUTURECRAFT.LOOP GEN2 full circulation shoes will be launched throughout the country.
