Jiang Guangnai: The First Minister Of Textile Industry In New China

Jiang Guangnai (1888-1967), formerly known as the Chinese character, was a member of the Dongguan revolution in 1950. After 1949, he served as Minister of the Ministry of textile industry. In June 1947, on the campus of Zhongshan University in Guangzhou, the atmosphere was heavy as if the air had already solidified. Prof. Mei, with a thin face and thick glasses, is a secret member of the Communist Party of China. A few days ago, he supported the massive demonstrations of Zhongshan University students in Guangzhou. The slogan of "anti hunger, anti civil war and anti persecution" chanted by the procession again touched the fragile nerves of the Kuomintang government. The police and secret agents arrested Mei Gongbin, surrounded by the angry teachers and students of Zhongshan University, but had to release it, but he refused to let him leave campus.

When the situation stalemate, a high grade car came along the campus. Sharp eyed people immediately recognized that this is the special vehicle of Zhang Fakui, a Guangzhou camp director. The governor's reputation as "arrogant" was outside, and the military police and the spy were rather afraid of him. Mei Gongbin, who had been trapped for a long time, quickly boarded the car and roared with the motor. At last, he left safely and ran to the vast world.

In fact, behind the scenes operation is not the owner of the special car, but a well-known Anti Japanese general. He heard that Mei Gongbin was trapped, and he borrowed the car from his neighbor and boss Zhang Fakui to help his friends out of the tiger's den. This general is Jiang Guangnai, the deputy leader of the Guangzhou camp. With his special status and wide friendship, Jiang Guangnai came to save many Chinese Communist Party members and Democrats. Mei Gong bin was just one of them.

The development of the war of liberation led more democratic parties to stand firmly against the position of Chiang Kai Shek and the Communist Party. Since September 1948, Li Jishen and Tsai Tingkai have left Jiefang District for the north. Jiang Guangnai remained in Hongkong, secretly engaged in counter measures, and hosted the Central Committee of the Kuomintang in Hong Kong with Zhang Wen.

It was not until the list of the Preparatory Committee for the New Political Consultative Conference was announced in June 1949 that Jiang Guangnai was exposed as a member of the New Political Consultative Conference. In July, he was accompanied by the head of the CPC's underground party, Qiao Guanhua, from Hong Kong to Beiping.

According to Jiang Guangnai's daughter Jiang Dingshu, when Jiang Guangnai went north, he sent his wife from Hongkong to Peking. At that time, relatives who had settled in Hong Kong wanted to leave Chiang Ding Shu, and Chiang's wife brought Jiang Guangnai's "military order" to this end: "one does not keep all of them going northward, learning well and participating in the building of the motherland."

In September 17th, Jiang Guangnai was elected as the presidium of the first plenary session of the Chinese people's Political Consultative Conference at the second plenary session of the Preparatory Committee for the New Political Consultative Conference. On the 21 day, the first plenary session of the Chinese people's Political Consultative Conference was held in the Huairen Hall of Zhongnanhai. Jiang Guangnai attended the meeting and took part in the work of the drafting committee. On the 25 day, he made a speech at the first plenary session of the CPPCC. In October 1st, Jiang Guangnai participated in the founding ceremony with honor. On October 9th, the first National Committee of the Chinese people's Political Consultative Conference held the first meeting at the hall of diligent government in Zhongnanhai, and Jiang Guangnai was elected standing committee member.

After the founding of new China, Jiang Guangnai changed his status from general to minister. On August 7, 1952, at the seventeenth meeting of the Central People's Government Committee, Jiang Guangnai was appointed Minister of the Ministry of textile industry of the Central People's government, and served until he died for 15 years. At that time, the textile industry was an important sector of the national economy. In April 12, 1950, President Mao Zedong once said in the speech at the fourth session of the first CPPCC Standing Committee that "there are three things, namely grain, cotton and kerosene, which are the bulk of imported goods for decades, and China's foreign exchange mainly buys these things. Only these three things depend on themselves, and the problem of economic construction can be completely solved. It can be seen that solving the clothing problem of hundreds of millions of Chinese people is a matter of national economy and people's livelihood.

This burden has naturally been placed on Jiang Guangnai and others. Jiang Guangnai has never been involved in this industry in his whole life. He jokes that he is a runner. He has maintained a good cooperative relationship with Vice Minister Qian Zhi Guang, Zhang Qinqiu and Chen Weiji. He continued to carry forward his consistent democratic style, listened to the opinions of professional and technical personnel with open mind, and enjoyed high prestige among the masses.

Jiang Guangnai noted that with the rapid development of the textile industry, textile materials can not keep pace with the development needs. In 1959, Jiang Guangnai, who was over seventy years old, personally led a working group to investigate in Hainan Island to learn about the good varieties of island cotton. The traffic conditions on the island are not very good, especially the cotton planting areas are relatively remote, but Jiang Guangnai worked hard to visit the site, and earnestly investigated and studied them to promote the cultivation of island cotton in a larger range, providing a more reliable raw material guarantee for the development of the textile industry.

Under the unified planning of the Ministry of textile industry, the cotton producing provinces and autonomous regions such as Xinjiang and Qinghai in the West have vigorously developed the textile industry and set up textile factories, not only realizing the local processing of raw materials, but also boosting the economic development of minority areas. But at that time, the first thing to be solved is the food problem of the masses. If the textile depends entirely on natural fibers such as cotton, linen and silk, it is necessary to compete with the grain. Jiang Guangnai, who led the first generation of textile people, put forward the prospect of developing the chemical fiber industry very much. Now it seems that this proposition is very strategic and realistic. From 1960 to 1964, in just four years, new China has built the first batch of modern chemical fiber factories in Shanghai, Nanjing, Xinxiang, Hangzhou, Harbin, Guangzhou and other places, enriching the types of textiles and increasing production.

Today, China has become the world's largest producer of chemical fiber. Not only has it solved the clothing problem of nearly 1 billion 400 million people, it has also exported to more than 200 countries and regions around the world, accounting for 40% of the total global textile and clothing trade. This is a great achievement. At this point, people have to remember Jiang Guangnai and other older generation of hardships. This is a positive contribution made by their generation to the prosperity and strength of the motherland and the happiness of the people.

In June 8, 1967, Jiang Guangnai died of illness in Beijing. Jiang Guangnai's ashes were first stored in the Revolutionary Cemetery in Babaoshan, Beijing, and later on 1997, she was buried with Tsai Tingkai in the tomb of the nineteenth Route Army, the Anti Japanese War Memorial Cemetery in Guangzhou.
