The global epidemic continues to escalate, the clothing industry has been severely hit, sales cliff style decline, the mainstream market imports fell sharply. In the first four months of this year, imports of clothing from the United States and Japan decreased by 18% and 8% respectively, and EU clothing imports decreased by 15% in the first three months.

China's share in the US, Japan and the EU market has decreased by 8, 3 and 2 percentage points respectively. Who has seized the share?

Vietnam: as the biggest winner, share in the mainstream market has increased. In the first four months, Vietnam's exports to the US were basically flat, and Japan's clothing exports increased by 6.6%. In particular, Vietnam's share in the US market is directly to China, which is only 2 percentage points different from that in China.

Bangladesh: not too small. Bangladesh's exports to the United States have increased by 2% as the total imports of clothing in the United States dropped by 18%.

Kampuchea: Although the scale is limited, exports to the United States increased by 19% in the first four months, and the growth rate was amazing. Exports to Japan also maintained a steady growth of 0.7%.

Burma: exports are relatively small affected by the epidemic and are the only exporters that maintain growth in the three major markets. Before March, exports to the EU grew by 15.4%. Exports to Japan in the first 16.1% months increased by 16.1%, and exports to the United States increased by 46%.

Indonesia: US $1 billion 530 million, a year-on-year decrease of 8%, a share of 6.4%, an increase of 0.7 percentage points over the same period last year.

India: US $1 billion 430 million, a year-on-year decrease of 12.4%, a share of 5.9%, an increase of 0.4 percentage points over the same period last year.

    Japan

In 1-4 months, Japan imported garments 8 billion 920 million US dollars, down 7.6% compared with the same period last year, and imports from China were 4 billion 750 million US dollars, down 12.5% from the same period last year. China accounted for 53.2% of Japan's imports of clothing, ranking first, down 3 percentage points from the same period last year.

The second to five largest suppliers of Japanese clothing imports are:

Vietnam: $1 billion 440 million, an increase of 6.6% over the previous year, a share of 16.2%, an increase of 2.2 percentage points over the same period last year.

Bengal: US $440 million, a year-on-year decrease of 1.3%, a share of 4.9%, an increase of 0.3 percentage points over the same period last year.

Kampuchea: $410 million, an increase of 0.7% over the previous year, a share of 4.6%, an increase of 0.4 percentage points over the same period last year.

Burma: $390 million, an increase of 16.1% over the previous year, a share of 4.4%, an increase of 0.9 percentage points over the same period last year.

    EU EU

In 1-3 months, the European Union imported 22 billion 190 million dollars of clothing, down 9% compared with the same period last year, and imports from China were 5 billion 840 million dollars, down 14.6% from the same period last year. China accounted for 26.3% of the EU's imports of clothing, ranking first and 1.7 percentage points lower than the same period last year.

The EU's second to five largest suppliers of clothing imports are:

Bengal: US $4 billion 440 million, a year-on-year decrease of 5.2%, a share of 20%, an increase of 0.8 percentage points over the same period last year.

Turkey: US $2 billion 450 million, a year-on-year decrease of 5.2%, a share of 11%, an increase of 0.4 percentage points over the same period last year.

In May, the apparel retail chain rose 188%, down 63% from a year ago.

The US Department of Commerce released May US retail data in June 16th. Statistics show that following the continuous decline of 8.3% and 14.7% in March and April, with the re opening of business, the retail sales of the United States rose steadily, and the growth rate in May increased by 17.7%, but it still fell 6.1% compared to the same period last year.

Clothing and clothing accessories stores grew by 188%, down 63.3% from a year earlier (50.5% and 78.8% respectively in March and April).

Last month's rebound was in the context of the slow and long-term recovery of the economy. In May, US employers increased 2 million 500 thousand jobs, an unexpected increase, indicating that the job market has bottomed out.

But analysts warn that in the face of a severe recession, some of the recovery so far may reflect the effects of temporary government assistance and expanded unemployment benefits. For the time being, Americans spend too much on necessities and spend less on luxuries.

Retail research firm Coresight Research expects us to close 20000 to 25000 stores this year, about 60% of which are in shopping centers. The figure is higher than the estimated 15000 stores closed by mid March and will exceed 9000 stores closed last year.

China will replace the United States as the largest garment market.

According to industry experts, China is expected to replace the United States as the world's largest garment market by 2023.

According to VijayBhupathiraju, a retail analyst at GlobalData, sales of China's super power market have returned to 80-100% level before the outbreak of the new crown.

GlobalData previously predicted that the new crown would lead to a loss of $297 billion in the global garment market in 2020, down 15.2% from 2019. The United States (the largest garment market) will account for 42% of all consumption losses. In the next few months, more well-known chain brands will submit eleventh bankruptcy protection applications. On the other hand, compared with the US and European counterparts driven by domestic demand growth, the Asia Pacific market is expected to respond to the impact of the new crown disease with the best possible conditions.

In the US dollar, ten of the world's most severely damaged markets will account for 85% of the total losses, and the mature market is the worst hit.
