Shanghai'S 330 Million Counterfeit LEGO Case Sentenced To Six Years' Fine Of 90 Million

The dispute between Lego and leppin has finally come to an end. Recently morning, a total of 9 people were sentenced to 3-6 years' imprisonment and 90 million fine respectively.

It is reported that from 2015 to April 2019, without authorization, the 9 defendants set up a toy factory by dismantling research, computer modeling, copying drawings, and entrusting others to develop molds. They specialized in the production of 663 pieces of modular toy products in 47 series, such as Lego's "Great Wall of China", which were sold under the brand of lepin.

On April 23, 2019, Shanghai public security bureau investigated the case, and found relevant objects in the workshop rented by the defendant Li. According to the appraisal of copyright appraisal committee of China Copyright Protection Center, the toys and Atlas of leppin company are basically the same as Lego's toys and atlas, forming a duplication relationship, involving a total amount of 30508780.7 yuan.

The Shanghai No.3 Central People's court sentenced Li to six years' imprisonment and a fine of 90 million yuan for the crime of infringing copyright. The other eight defendants were sentenced to four years' imprisonment, six months' to three years' imprisonment and corresponding fines.
