Xinjiang'S Cotton Output Will Account For 87.3% Of The Country In 2020

According to the National Bureau of statistics, Xinjiang's cotton output will reach 5.161 million tons in 2020, an increase of 3% over last year, accounting for 87.3% of the total cotton output in China. By the end of the cotton production season in 2020, Xinjiang's total cotton yield, unit yield, planting area and commodity allocation ranked first in China for 26 consecutive years.

According to the announcement of the National Bureau of statistics on cotton yield in 2020 issued by the National Bureau of statistics on December 18, the cotton planting area in Xinjiang will reach 37.5285 million mu in 2020, accounting for 78.92% of the national planting area. According to the sampling survey by the National Bureau of statistics, the yield of cotton (lint) in Xinjiang is 137.5 kg / mu, which is 13.2 kg / mu higher than the average yield of cotton in China.

According to the Department of agriculture and rural affairs of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, in 2020, all parts of Xinjiang actively guide cotton production to concentrate in superior production areas, nearly 2 million mu of cotton suitable and risk cotton areas will withdraw from cotton planting, the area of fruit cotton intercropping in southern Xinjiang will be further reduced, and the scale and intensive level of cotton production will be significantly improved.

Due to the unique light and heat conditions, Xinjiang cotton has a higher quality advantage in China. Since the 1990s, the regional focus of cotton production in China has gradually shifted from the Yellow River basin to Xinjiang. At present, Xinjiang is the largest and the most important cotton producing area in the world.
