Large scale breeding of tussah in Liaoning Province is inseparable from scientific breeding. For many years, Liaoning sericulture Science Research Institute has been carrying out tussah breeding work continuously. At present, 80% of the world's tussah germplasm resources have been preserved, and scientific and technological achievements account for more than 70% of the national tussah scientific and technological achievements. It is the concentrated birthplace of tussah scientific and technological achievements in the world.

In the 1950s, in order to reverse the backward situation of tussah production in China at that time, Liaoning sericulture Research Institute adopted color separation technology to cultivate the first new tussah variety "Qinghuang No.1" from Qinghuang silkworm type with strong vitality from farmhouse species with complex characters, and popularized it with its sister variety "qing6", It has replaced the traditional farm seeds. This also realized the first renewal of tussah production species in China.

Later, in order to improve the quality of tussah cocoon and improve the benefit of cocoon silk, Liaoning sericulture science research institute took the light brown cocoon as breeding material, used fluorescent cocoon selection and other innovative technologies, and systematically bred the world's first new white cocoon variety "baicocoon No. 1" in 1986. The application of this fluorescence identification technology greatly improved the selection efficiency and shortened the breeding process of five white cocoon pure varieties.

From the first tussah disease resistant variety "Kangbing No.2" in the world to the new tussah varieties 8821 and 8822 with stable heredity and high feed efficiency, Liaoning Sericulture Scientific Research Institute has always been at the forefront of scientific breeding, and has achieved 5 world first and 4 pioneering research results since its establishment.

At present, Liaoning sericulture Science Research Institute is studying how to improve the nutritional value of tussah germplasm, continue to provide more technical and material support for silkworm breeding, increasing production and efficiency of farmers, and achieving high-quality development of sericulture.
