Industrial Cluster: Pay Attention To The Fact That Turkish Cotton Is Still Under Produced This Year

According to the report released by the American Agricultural Counsellor, the cotton planting area in Turkey in 2023/24 is about 420000 hectares, a year-on-year decrease of 24.3%, and the cotton output is expected to be 735000 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 31%. The domestic cotton consumption is 900000 tons. This year, Turkish cotton is still in a state of insufficient production and demand, and the supply of new cotton in 2023/24 with high grade and high indicators is tight.

According to the statistics of Chinese customs, Turkey's cotton imports in February 2024 accounted for 4%, on a par with Australian cotton and Indian cotton (both 4%). Turkey's cotton imports in March accounted for about 3%, "on an equal footing" with Australian cotton (3%), ranking fourth in China's imports in the month. Turkey's cotton imports rose to the third place in April, accounting for 5.28%, significantly higher than Indian cotton Australian cotton and other cotton producing areas.

According to the survey, Qingdao, Zhangjiagang and other places still have a certain amount of RMB resources (customs clearance has been completed), bonded Turkish cotton inventory (Qingdao Bonded Area is the "main battlefield"). Since May, cotton trade enterprises and intermediaries have still been actively listing/quoting. Domestic small and medium-sized cotton textile enterprises have a high interest in Turkish cotton inquiry and procurement. On the whole, Turkish cotton imports gradually occupy a place, threatening the status of Indian cotton.

Compared with the major producers/exporters of American cotton, Brazilian cotton, Australian cotton and Indian cotton, why has Turkish cotton continued to export to China since 2024?

　 The industry analysis is as follows:

On the one hand, Turkish cotton is more suitable for spinning 40S and below count cotton yarn, and has the characteristics of easy dyeing and even dyeing (the dye effect is fuller than domestic cotton). The indicators and cotton yarn suitability are close to Central Asia cotton and Xinjiang cotton;

On the other hand, compared with Brazilian cotton, African cotton and Indian cotton, Turkish cotton has a strong cost performance advantage. Judging from the quotation, the current main ports of Turkey cotton in China are M 1-5/32 (Qiangli 28/29GPT) quotation is 6.50-8.50 cents/pound lower than that of Brazilian cotton of the same index; Moreover, although Turkey's cotton output will drop to 735000 tons in 2023/24, its initial inventory will reach 573000 tons (USDA report data), so Turkey's domestic cotton supply is relatively sufficient, and Turkish cotton can be exported by land, sea and other means.
