Shoeshine, Generous Donations From Citizens

Yesterday, more than 20 students from Industrial and Commercial University Of Chongqing's management school put up shoes stalls in the Three Gorges Plaza in Shapingba, and free shoes for passers-by.

"We were moved by the deeds of the old party members before deciding to do so."

The old Party member, whose name is Li Zhaokuan, is 80 years old. He is a native of Quxian County, Sichuan.

Since 1994, he has been shoeshine shoes at the gate of the martyrs' tomb outside the Sichuan area.

In July this year, during a casual chat, the staff of the red martyrs' Union at the martyrs' tomb learned that he had sent intelligence to Yang Hanxiu martyrs.

After two hours of talking with him, director of the Chongqing Hongyan joint cultural development management center finally confirmed that he had been the "underground correspondent" of the party.

Li Zhaokuan joined the Communist Party in 1948 and worked in Chongqing. Although his wife cultivated land and his son had mental problems, he insisted on paying party membership every year for more than 50 years.

On the 19 day of the "rebuilt Red Rock Soul" lecture, the students of Li Hua and the industrial and Commercial University spoke of the respectable old Party member and made many people moved. They decided to pay tribute to the elderly with practical action.

Despite the fact that the shoe polish is somewhat clumsy without training, the enthusiasm of college students has moved many passers-by.

After reading the leaflets for publicizing the deeds of the elderly, many people took out money to show their support for students' action. Up to 5 p.m. yesterday, the "love shoeshare booth" raised more than 1200 yuan of cash.

Li Xueyan, a sophomore in Management College, said that they would hand over all their money to the Organization Department of the District Committee of the Sha district next week to make their own efforts to solve the difficulties of the elderly.
