    Japanese Clothing

Recently, the Ministry of economy and industry of Japan announced the industrial statistics bulletin in 2007 (hereinafter referred to as "quick news").

The quick report shows that in all 24 industries, the ratio of textile and garment enterprises is far higher than that of other industries, which has aroused people's concerns about the future of Japan's textile and garment industry.

In 2007, the total number of manufacturing enterprises with more than 10 employees was 14.0795, a decrease of 2.8% from the previous year, while the total number of employees reached 7 million 782 thousand and 201, an increase of 0.6% over the same period last year, according to the "quick report".

The total annual sales volume of manufacturing industry is 327 trillion and 107 billion 200 million yen and the added value is 104 trillion and 36 billion 300 million yen.

From the statistical results, the average output value of manufacturing enterprises in 2007 was 2 billion 323 million 290 thousand yen, with an average value of 13 million 370 thousand yen per capita.

In addition, the total number of industrial enterprises with more than 4 employees was 25.8032, a decrease of 6% over the previous year, and a decline of more than 10 enterprises.

According to the classification of the Ministry of economy and industry, the Japanese manufacturing industry is divided into 24 broad categories: textile and clothing belong to eleventh and twelfth categories.

According to the situation of discontinued enterprises in 2007, there were 2921 textile enterprises with more than 10 employees, a decrease of 4.9% over the previous year, and a total of 6784 textile enterprises with 4 or more people, a decrease of 10% over the same period last year.

At the same time, the number of employees, total sales and average value added is at a relatively low level in 24 industries.

There were 102 thousand and 707 employees in 10 or more textile enterprises, a decrease of 4.2% over the previous year, and a total of 125 thousand and 311 employees in 4 or more textile enterprises, a decrease of 5.7% over the same period last year.

The sales revenue of textile enterprises above 10 or above is 2 trillion and 225 billion 530 million yen, and the total sales volume of textile enterprises above 4 or above is 2 trillion and 223 billion 910 million yen.

In terms of added value, the added value of 10 or more textile enterprises totals 784 billion 855 million yen, and the added value of textile enterprises with more than 4 people is 883 billion 92 million yen.

It is estimated that over 10 of textile enterprises have an added value per capita of only 7 million 640 thousand yen, ranking third in the 24 industries.

In sharp contrast to total sales and per capita added value, the total inventory and tangible fixed assets investment of textile enterprises increased significantly.

According to statistics, the total inventory of textile enterprises at the end of 30 or more is 99 billion 599 million yen, an increase of 3.7% over the end of 2006, and the total investment of tangible fixed assets reached 74 billion 92 million yen, an increase of 12% over the same period last year.

In addition, the per capita cash income of textile enterprises with more than 10 employees was 3 million 680 thousand yen, an increase of 0.3% over 2006.

          服裝業年人均附加值、現金收入倒數第一

In 2007, there were 6308 garment enterprises with more than 10 employees, a decrease of 6.1% over the previous year, and 1.2741 clothing enterprises with 4 or more people, down 9.3% from the same period last year.

On the whole, the proportion of garment enterprises with 10 or more people in the total number of industrial enterprises is 4.5%, ranking ninth, but the number of enterprises is the highest.

In terms of practitioners, the total number of practitioners in 10 or more garment enterprises was 184 thousand and 889, a decrease of 5.3%, and the total number of employees in 4 or more garment enterprises was 224 thousand and 171, down 6.4% from the same period last year.

The drop in the number of employees in 10 or more garment enterprises ranked second in all 24 industries.

In terms of output value and added value creation, the total output value of garment enterprises with more than 10 people is 807 billion 705 million yen, and the total output value of garment enterprises with more than 4 people is 2 trillion and 749 billion 450 million yen; the added value of 10 or more garment enterprises is 804 billion 580 million yen and 943 billion 263 million yen respectively.

The value added per capita of garment enterprises of more than 10 people is 4 million 360 thousand yen, ranking the last in 24 industries, while the annual average cash income per person is 1.8% higher than that in 2006, reaching 2 million 260 thousand yen, still ranked the last in the whole industry.

What is slightly different from the textile industry is that the total inventory at the end of 30 or more clothing enterprises and the total amount of tangible fixed assets investment have shown a downward trend.

Among them, the total inventory at the end of the year was 74 billion 758 million yen, a decrease of 5.5%, and the total investment in tangible fixed assets was 22 billion 827 million yen, a decrease of 5.6% over the same period last year.

          皮革·皮毛業形勢嚴峻

According to the "quick report", in 2007, there were 850 domestic leather and 10 person fur manufacturing enterprises, 5.2% less than that in 2006, and 2102 leather and fur production enterprises with 4 or more people, with a reduction of 7.8%.

The total number of employees engaged in leather and fur production enterprises with a scale of 10 or more people was 22 thousand and 385 and 29 thousand and 755, respectively, compared with 2006, respectively, by 5.5% and 6% respectively.

The total annual output value of enterprises with more than 10 persons or more than 4 persons is 414 billion 37 million yen and 494 billion 913 million yen respectively, and the added value is 150 billion 59 million yen and 183 billion 517 million yen respectively.

The total inventory at the end of 30 or more enterprises was 14 billion 955 million yen, an increase of 0.6% over the previous year, and the total investment in tangible fixed assets was 4 billion 867 million yen, a decrease of 7.9%.

It is worth mentioning that the per capita added value and annual cash income per capita of leather and fur producers are at a relatively low level.

In terms of added value, the added value per capita of enterprises with 10 or more people is 6 million 700 thousand yen, which is only higher than that of the clothing industry; the annual cash income per capita for enterprises with more than 10 people is 3 million 70 thousand yen, a decrease of 1.3% over the previous year, which is only slightly higher than that of the clothing industry (2 million 260 thousand yen) and the food industry (2 million 790 thousand yen).
