    Infineon Production Plant Located In Asia

    The Infineon Corporation announced recently that its first advanced energy-saving plant in Asia was officially completed and started operation in Kulim Industrial Park, Malaysia.

    Dato Rafi Da Aziz, Minister of the Ministry of international trade and industry of Malaysia, and Infineon Corporation president and chief executive Wolfgang tsiba, formally cut the ribbon for the new production plant.



    According to Infineon Corporation, the energy efficient production plant will cost US $1 billion, and the total number of employees will be over 1700 when it runs at full capacity.

    The plant's maximum capacity will reach 100 thousand pieces of silicon chips and 8 inches per month.

    Products are mainly used in industrial and automotive energy saving industry.



    "Our new factory in Kulim city is a strategic investment for the future. We hope that the high performance variable speed controlled motor produced by it will solve the growing demand for more efficient energy saving control in the world's industrial, computing and household electrical appliances market," he said.

    With the continuous growth of global energy demand and the gradual consumption of natural resources, energy saving semiconductor plays an increasingly important role in solving the problem of energy conservation.

    It quoted the market research firm IMS Research as saying that Infineon Corporation has been a leader in the global energy saving semiconductor market for three consecutive years. In 2005, the total value of the US energy saving semiconductor market reached US $11 billion 350 million, of which Infineon Corporation accounted for 9.3% of the market share.



    The production plant broke down from February to 2005 and completed the production workshop, and it only took 12 months to complete the production equipment.

    The production plant entered the pre production preparation phase in April 2006, and the production capacity increased continuously after trial production started in August.

    The plant is part of the Infineon Corporation energy saving semiconductor production network, and plays a complementary role in Infineon Corporation's energy-saving semiconductor production in Europe.

    The main R & D and production center of Infineon Corporation energy saving semiconductor is located in Villach, Austria and Regensburg, Germany.



    The main task of the new plant in Kulim city is to produce energy-efficient semiconductor devices with efficient energy management functions, such as CoolMOS and IGBT chips in industrial applications and SMART-Power chips for automobiles.



    CoolMOS semiconductor uses a completely new approach to provide power supplies such as servers, computers, laptops and mobile phones or rechargeable batteries used by PDA.

    Infineon Corporation said that the power supply designed with CoolMOS chips is lighter and smaller in weight and size.



    Infineon Corporation said its IGBT chip introduced new concepts in home applications such as refrigerators, air conditioners and other industrial applications.

    Because of its small internal resistance and high conversion performance, all kinds of equipment can make use of electric energy more efficiently, and the waste heat generated is less than before.



    In the field of automotive applications, Infineon Corporation's SMART-Power chip can improve the efficiency of fuel utilization, and is safe and convenient.

    They are widely used in engine control, ABS anti lock braking system, airbag, lighting control system, electric window opening system, seat adjustment system and vehicle door lock system.
