Hangzhou Bay Bridge Connects International Metropolis Circle
To promote the rise of new regional economic units, Shanghai and Ningbo, the two heavyweight cities in the Yangtze River Delta across the sea, did not seem to have attracted much attention in the past.
In May 1st, the world's longest cross sea bridge, the Hangzhou bay cross sea bridge, was formally opened to traffic, connecting the four cities of Shanghai, Hangzhou, Suzhou and Ningbo into 1 hours' golden traffic network.
The bridge economy, which is produced by the bridge, will not only make the two cities produce "city effect" but also lead to the Hangzhou Bay and the Yangtze River Delta.
Not long ago, the State Council approved the establishment of fifth bonded port areas in Meishan island on the east coast of Zhejiang. Only 27 square kilometers of Ningbo Meishan island became a bonded port area.
With the completion of the Hangzhou bay cross sea bridge, Ningbo will become the pport hub of the southern wing of the Yangtze River Delta, while the Meishan Ningbo's core location in the core area of Meishan will also have more prominent location advantages.
Like the Meishan bonded port area, a number of new regional economies and "economic units" are rising in the Gulf of Hangzhou on the two sides of the Hangzhou Bay.
Haiyan County, Pinghu city and Cixi city on both sides of the bridge also welcomed a number of foreign enterprises settled in succession.
For example, Jiaxing originally used leather, textile, light industry and other traditional industries as the main industry. After the completion of the bridge, through the radiation from big cities like Shanghai and Ningbo, Jiaxing will vigorously develop the equipment industry and mechanical processing, optical and electrical industry, and information industry.
At the same time, it also brings a great opportunity for Jiaxing to adjust its industrial structure and upgrade its industrial level.

Located in the southern bank of Cixi, the construction of the bridge shortens the distance from Shanghai and improves the industrial level in the area.
In the past, automobile key parts industry, electronic information industry, new energy and environmental protection equipment industry, aviation food industry, modern service industry, which were not mentioned frequently in the past, have been identified as the dominant industrial clusters that will be cultivated in the future.
Become the "pivot" of the Yangtze River Delta regional economic development, the opening of the Hangzhou bay cross sea bridge, and its impact on the Yangtze River Delta regional economy is no less than the "fulcrum" that the ancient Greek mathematician Archimedes once proposed to pry the earth.
From a spatial point of view, the bridge across the Yangtze River has enabled the Yangtze River Delta to achieve a 3 hour traffic circle.
According to the laws of economics, the 3 hour economic circle is a key link to decide whether the other cities' economic development in the region can directly get the radiation and drive of the central cities.
Among them, the largest and most direct beneficiaries are Ningbo and Jiaxing, which are connected by the two wings of the bridge.
The two seaside new towns and the tidal flats that become investment hot spots are the vanguard of the "bridge economy".
For Ningbo, it has been out of the embarrassment of traffic and has been shortening for more than an hour to Shanghai. This has made Ningbo's gold rush to become more accessible. The flow of talents, materials and information from the other side of the bridge will surely become a great driving force for Ningbo's economic development.
For Jiaxing, Jiaxing has been sitting on the pport hub of the Yangtze River since then. The economy has been running from the "canal age" to the "coastal era". The Binhai New Area is becoming a new growth pole for Jiaxing's economic development. The bridge has become the fulcrum of the dream of "reconstructing an economic Jiaxing in 15 years".
In the face of the "bridge economy", it is not just Jiaxing and Ningbo, but many other cities in the Yangtze River Delta have been fighting for bridge.
The "combination of vertical and horizontal" between cities has been surging, forming a joint effort to create "Shanghai, Ningbo, Hangzhou, Golden Triangle" and accelerate the integration of the Yangtze River Delta. It will truly connect Shanghai, Hangzhou, Ningbo, Jiaxing, Shaoxing, Zhoushan and other regions with the most dynamic and economically most prosperous areas, with the overall upward growth force, and the layout of the productive forces of Zhejiang will undergo significant changes.
For Shanghai, the sea crossing bridge will become a catalyst for the Yangtze River Delta port group from "combination" to "integration", and further consolidate Shanghai's central position in finance, trade and shipping.
For the whole Yangtze River Delta region, the convergence force of the regional economy, the social effect of urban development and the synergy effect will increase exponentially, and the contour of the "sixth world-class metropolis" will become clearer.
Pave the way for "sixth international metropolis circles"
Following the five international metropolis circles in Paris, London, New York, Tokyo and Chicago, the 15 cities of the Yangtze River Delta with "Z" in the center of Shanghai are expected to become "sixth international metropolis circles".
At present, there are 16 cities listed in the Yangtze River Delta metropolitan area, including Shanghai, Jiangsu, Nanjing, Suzhou, Wuxi, Changzhou, Zhenjiang, Nantong, Yangzhou and Taizhou.
It has been revealed that after a few years, the newly built two bridges and a tunnel on the Hangzhou Bay, which were originally "natural cutting", will choose adults' travel choices.
Such breaking the boundaries of geographical regions will greatly accelerate the integration of resources among cities and achieve the "same city effect" and eventually accelerate the formation of the "sixth international level metropolis circle" in the Yangtze River Delta.
It should be noted that the closure of the Hangzhou Bay Bridge will definitely push forward the "sixth international metropolis circle".
But in the Yangtze River Delta, the "invisible wall" of administrative divisions is still invisible.
On the other hand, the central cities are afraid that others will move their cheese, and they will not share it. While they are looking forward to others' cheese, they want to use it for themselves.
How can we learn from foreign advanced experience?
According to Professor Wang Shengjun of Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, different cities undertake different functions according to their own foundation and characteristics. The division and cooperation between cities and complementary advantages can improve the overall effect and comprehensive competitiveness of the urban agglomeration.
Taking New York metropolitan area as an example, New York, as the financial and trade center of the United States, has the most developed business and production services, playing a leading role in the adjustment of industrial structure; Boston's high-tech agglomeration has become the world's leading electronic, biological, aerospace and defense enterprise center; Philadelphia's heavy chemical industry is relatively developed; Philadelphia port, one of the busiest ports in the United States, has led to the expansion of Philadelphia's entire pportation industry, making it the pportation hub of New York metropolitan area; while Baltimore is nonferrous metal, smelting industry, and the status of national defense industry is ten important; Washington's capital function has also painted a strong political center color for the whole metropolis belt, playing an important role in the international economy.
Therefore, the diversity of central cities makes the comprehensive overall function far greater than the simple superposition of the functions of individual cities.
