Figures show that in the first two months of this year, Brazil's exports to Argentina were only $1 billion 330 million, down 46.5% from the same period last year, while Argentina's exports to Brazil were only 1 billion 270 million dollars, down 41.1% from the same period last year.

A spokesman for Brazil's Ministry of development, industry and foreign trade said on the same day that Argentina's recent trade protection measures had an impact on about 10% of Brazil's traditional exports to Afghanistan.

With the rise of trade protectionism as a result of the global financial crisis, a series of trade disputes have taken place recently in Brazil and Argentina, and bilateral economic and trade relations are suddenly tense.

In mid February, the foreign ministers of Brazil and Argentina announced that the two countries would set up a working group to resolve bilateral trade disputes.
