A spokesman for the Pakistan textile factory Association said on Wednesday: "we have asked the government to save the textile industry from serious crises, rationalize the tariffs on polyester staple fibers and reduce yarn prices, so that our value-added sectors will be more competitive in the international market."

Imports and exports are tax-free, but many trade restrictions have been imposed on polyester staple fibers.
As a result, synthetic fiber accounts for only 18% of total raw materials in Pakistan, compared with 60% in the world.
The current tariff structure is seriously abnormal, and polyester staple fiber blended yarn is zero import duty, but polyester staple fiber as a raw material needs to pay 4.5% of the punitive import tax.
Pakistan is extremely short of polyester staple fiber.

As a result, the price gap between local polyester staple fiber and international polyester staple fiber has expanded rapidly, resulting in the loss of 30% competitiveness of Pakistan's products.
