Canada's Ontario (Ontario) provincial government started in July 1st to merge the original 8% Provincial Sales Tax (PST) and the 5% federal cargo service tax (Goods Services Tax, referred to as GST) into a unified tax system Harmonized Sales Sales (referred to as).

Due to the new tax system, goods and services that do not need to pay the provincial sales tax before the new tax system are subject to 8% more sales tax, such as gasoline, home heating fuel, new housing and real estate costs, car washing, car repair, haircut, beauty, dry cleaning, newspaper and Internet fees.

After the implementation of HST, some products which are exempt from the provincial sales tax (only GST) are: children.

There is no need to pay PST before, and in the future there is no need to pay HST's goods and services, including basic groceries, prescription drugs, some medical devices, public pport, legal aid, medical and educational services, most financial services, childcare services, tuition fees, music lessons, residential rents, property management fees and so on.

In addition, if the order agreement was signed before the implementation of the new tax system in July 1, 2010, newspapers and magazine subscriptions, return tickets and burials after the implementation of the new tax system will be completed.

There is no need to pay the new tax difference.

The Ontario government provides a one-off subsidy to the residents of the river because of the economic losses caused by the new tax system.

Families who earn less than 160 thousand yuan a year can receive a $1000 allowance. Singletons earning less than 80 thousand yuan will receive an allowance of $300 under the same plan.

The subsidy will be issued in three cheques, and will be sent within 12 months after the entry into force of the new tax system.
